Magnavox dvd recorder/vcr

It sounds like you may have your vcr connected via composite cable. Check the back of your VCR and follow the cable to your TV. You should see a Red, White and Yellow connection on both ends. The Yellow connector is the video.

Here is an image to help you find it:

LG dvd player/vcr combo' dvd works fine. vcr records/play, has sound has NO PICTURE? PLEASE HELP

Possible that the VIDEO HEAD is dirty , could be clogged with ferrite dust or fungus from an old cassette. If you have a cleaning tape please try it ON the set for sometime.
If not a manual cleaning can help but with great caution as the tiny ferrite heads on the Head drum is very fragile. So use a piece of paper to carefully rub along the drum using soft action , DO NOT ATTEMPT HARD ACTION GET THE FERRITE CAUGHT INTO.
If there is no result the head can be faulty but it can be confirmed after a close check up or a continuity test after removing. Require good experience to attempt.

Can't get picture on TV.

If you were using RCA cables, you may have had them hooked up wrong. I know this may sound like an easy fix, but I still hook them up wrong from time to time. Especially if there are more than one set of RCA hook-ups on the back of the unit. If you were using a S-video cable you shouldn't have to use RCA cables, if you had both hooked up that could cause your DVD/VCR unit to not work properly and only get a partial feed to the TV. I hope this helps a little. Good luck.

Toshiba VCR/DVD Recorder Combo - Problems connecting it to system

I was able to connect to my cable box. I used RCA (yellow, red, white) cabling. I connected the Video Out on the cable box to the Video In on the DVD/VC (to the DVD VCR cabling section). I then from same section used the Video Out using RCA Cabling to the the Video In connectors on my Phillips LCD TV. That left only to connect the TV to the cable box using regular TV coax cable. Everything works, although I am going nuts trying to dub from VCR to DVD-R or +R discs.

No picture while playing DVD or VHS tape

Your unit has it seems to have developed a video problem. it could be in the video switching IC or the video processor. Its going to need a trained technician, who knows how to use an ocilliscope to find the video problem.. Good Luck
