I have the kenwood kac-8104d amp and it lights up and everything, but it doesnt power my subs hooked up to it. I have no idea why because theres power going through andd the amp is turning on. Any help?

you blew the output Ic's (amps one or more ) you can fix this by replacing the output IC's

is the amp 2 ohm stable? does the amp have enough watts to support the rms of the sub

check power fuse make sure it's not blown and gettin proper 12 volts if all connections are properly fixed maybe get it checked out

your amp isnt stable at 1 ohm so you have to wire your subs in parallel

make sure all your wires you are using to connect the amp are 4 gauge check your ground make sure its drilled threw thick metal scuff off the paint that its grounded too and check how you have your subs wired see what ohm there wired in the you can get more power out the amp in 2 ohm then 4 ohm

I guess this Amp is stable down to 2 ohms. 500 Watts X 1. Unfortunately there is no way possible for you to present a 2 ohm load to the output of this amplifier. Here are your options.

Speakers in series with VC in parallel = 4 ohm total Z
Speakers in parallel with VC in parallel = 1 ohm total Z (not good)
Speakers in parallel with VC in series = 4 ohm total Z ( Whats the point)
Speakers in series with VC in series = 16 ohm total Z ( Whats the Point)

So your best option to maximize power transfer from your amp to your speakers would be option 1. (Z = Impedance)

channels mey be burned....does the amp smell like burnt electronics

genrally kenwood amps are power hungry amps so after playing for a while if it doesnt get the amount of amperage to make it work it will shut down cus you car cant charge the battery long enough for the use of that amp so my idea is try a farad capacitor and see if that helps good luck .......tk

sounds like u r overheating and then cooling try a 12volt fan

Double check all of your connections. I know this same problem has happened to me and come to find our that all the problem was the fuse blew that is connected between the radio and amp. Also check you battery connection. Corrosion on the power cable will also cause it to have a bad connection.
