Yes, you can correct its focusing adjustment with Sigma lens dock. Please look it up at amazon/B&H or your local Sigma dealer

SOURCE: dust inside my sigma lens

Zoom lenses are kind of like a tire pump. They will draw air in (and out) when zoomed. The longer the throw of the zoom, the more air moved. You can try Sigma, they may cover it, but...

A small amount of dust should have no effect on the quality of your images, but I would be concerned about it being transferred to your camera's image sensor over time. ( I assume you are using the lens on a digital body )

SOURCE: My Sigma APO 70-200mm f/2.8 HSM lens functions

Am having the same problem. I fixed it once but can't remember how I did it. I think there are screws under the mounting ring -which has four screws itself. Then, I think under the green computer board, there are other screws that should be tightened... I will look at mine tomorrow and come back here to report.

The lens does not focus manually or automatically.

Hi.
I have a lot of experiencie repairing Sigma lens.
In this zoom 150-500, the problem is located at the focus mechanism. This is a rear-focus lens so the focus mechanism is close to the bayonet.
It is not very hard to repair, but is better if you send to a Sigma Service Station.
Normally the mechanism is stuck due to a fall or strong punch.

My lens is not getting the image sharp and the motor of the lens is making a strange noise.

The autofocus motors in Sigma lenses that are not HSM tend to be noisy, but I presume yours is now more noisy than usual. With that, and not focusing properly, considered together, It seems to me the motor has failed or the lens parts have partially seized causing the motor to "struggle" to focus parts that are not moving as they should. I.e., once focused the motor will stop, but if the electronics are telling the motor the lens is not if focus, it will continue to try to achieve focus. Most likely, time for repair, and if in warranty, contact Sigma repair via Sigmaphoto.com.

Focus ring will not move below 5 feet. Can't focus on things closer than that - AF or MF.

There's nothing you can do yourself to fix it, the lens should focus down to 0.4m (15").

The lens comes with an automatic one year manufacturer's warranty, which extends by another three years if you registered the warranty so I suggest that you return the lens to Sigma for repair.

Note that any evidence of misuse or unauthorised repair attempts automatically invalidate the warranty.

135-400mm lens on nikon d40

Unfortunately, this lens is not supported by the D40 due to Nikon's unfortunate decision to leave out the autofocus motor from this camera.  This is why I tell folks not to waste their money on the D40 - access to the many, many, many lenses that Nikon has made over the years, many of which are available used for a substantial savings, is lost on this camera.  The only Nikon lenses that work are AF-S lenses, and some third party lenses that have their own internal motors.  I got a list of Sigma lenses that are compatible with the D40 for you:
The list of compatible Sigma lenses for the Nikon D40 as of the current date is as follows:
  • 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC
  • 12-24mm F4.5-5.6
  • 17-35mm F2.8-4 DG
  • 50-500mm F4-6.3 DG
  • APO 50-150mm F2.8 EX DC HSM
  • 70-200mm F2.8 DG MACRO
  • 80-400mm F4.5-5.6
  • 100-300mm F4 DG
  • 120-300mm F2.8 DG
  • 300-800mm F5.6 DG
  • 14mm F2.8 EX
  • 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM
  • 150mm F2.8 EX DG
  • 180mm F3.5 EX DG
  • 300mm EX DG
  • 500mm EX DG
  • 800mm f5.6 EX DG

Sorry for the bad news.  The cheaper thing at this point may be to sell the D40 and get a D80.  I personally have a D70S, but that is no longer made.

Broken?

If if won't focus manually then there is a problem with the helicoid and you'll need it professionally repaired. Don't force it.

Sigma 55-200mm F4-5.6 DC

The D40 will only AF with lenses that have their own focusing motor (Nikon AF-S and Sigma HSM). This lens will not focus.
