How to gt rid of burnt smell inside the microwave from burnt popcorn

It is probably safe to use the microwave oven after removing the burned smell.

I found some methods for removing a burned smell from a microwave.

4. Banish the remaining smells with the power of citrus.

• Peel two oranges or slice a lemon in half.
• Place the orange peels or lemon slices in a bowl of water (1-2 cups).
• Microwave it for 4 minutes. Watch closely to ensure that the water stays in the bowl and the citrus peels do not burn.
• If possible, leave the bowl in the microwave (with the door closed) for 12 hours.
• Too time-consuming, or just not doable for you? That's okay too. Let the bowl sit in the closed microwave for half an hour then, if the burnt smell persists, continue to step 5.

5. Still bad odors in your microwave? Leave an open box of baking soda on your microwave tray overnight.

• It will neurtalize the odor without adding to the smelly situation in any way.
• You can also place coffee grounds from your morning coffee in a bowl in the microwave all day while you are at work.
• If you don't mind coffee smell, you can microwave 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds in a half cup of water for 2-3 minutes to expedite the process.

Once the plastic is yellowed, there's not much you can do to remove the yellow discoloration. Just continue to use your microwave as usual. If a burnt smell remains, you can heat vinegar in the microwave which will help eliminate the horrible odor--like burnt popcorn!!!! Yuck!

Depends on your microwave and the popcorn. Your owner's manual will have instructions. The first couple times, it will probably be by trial and error.

BTW--the best way to get rid of stinky burned popcorn smell from a microwave is to microwave a small amount (1/4 cup) vinegar until boiling and let it set in the microwave for a while.

Try pouring some vinegar in a cup and microwaving until the vinegar steams. This works well when burnt popcorn smells up the microwave.

Hi Diane, that happened to me last year my daughter burned popcorn in microwave. I washed it out with baking soda and water, hot water. Then rinse it out good and place about a tsp. of baking soda in a small bowel with a little water set timer for 10 seconds on high power, this helps to nuetrilize the air flow and now you can use it with out any burn smell.

I would be in the market for a new oven right away.

You would be better off to replace the filter. Purchase two and use the first one to capture the remaining smoke residue. Then install the other clean one to keep microwave free of smell. There are several things you can do to help git rid of that smell
First get a mild cleaner with bleach (soft scrub ect!) and clean entire oven inside and try getting that scorch mark off! a little pressure should lessen it ! (there is no filter inside! The plastic inside covering holds smells for a long time! you can also put a cup of white vinigar inside warm on high for 1 minute and leave in overnight!
