SOURCE: Sony SDM-HS53 Monitor Goes Blank

I used to have the same problem until I discovered that the cables in the back of the monitor weren't securely connected. I have a very similar model monitor to the one being displayed here

SOURCE: Sony sdm-hs75p runs for 5 odd minutes then screen goes blank?

h_e_l_l_f_i_, Have you performed the flashlight test after the screen goes "BLANK" ?? No!! You will not find the "flashlight" test listed in the OWNERS manual!! The test is a quick evaluation of the STATE of the units "switch-mode-power-supply". Did you repair the power supply to get online to fixya? The more info you tell me about your LCD monitor the better I can assist you. Is the unit really "BLANK" or is it just "BLACK"?? Can you SEE the WIN-desktop when a bright "flashlight" is held 1" from the screen at different angles? If you can see a faint image being displayed it means the SMPS is in partial shutdown and still powering the VGA to LCD interface board. If unit is both BLACK and BLANK, then SMPS is likely in full shutdown mode! I will assume that when you stated "runs" for 5 minutes, that it would display normal text and graphics as usual and NOT be wearing a pair of NIKE's runners footwear? Yes! From your description it would lead me to think that your SONY has a SMPS/INVERTER problem. You failed to state the age and or approximate TOTAL "ON" hours the unit has. (hrs/day x 350days x Years since DOM). It makes a difference in whether I tell you to trade up to a wide screen or have it repaired(refurbished with new SMPS/INVERTER or just rehab the SMPS on your own. hellfi, surely, after reading this you WILL go to YOUTUBE, (just fyi) and view some of the longer video clips of "LCD monitor disassembly" and typical "LCD monitor repair"!! You WILL be impressed at how much you will learn about how "the black screen of death" is dealt with. If this response helps in any way, please rate it on fixya. 12fixlouie lmistyrel @ aim.com Get back to me if further assistance is required asap!!!

17" Sony SDM-S74 goes blank after 1 hour

Here is my possibility.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the fact is you have a very old monitor. My research tells me that it is almost 10 years old.

The obvious problem and the one most likely is that the power board inside the monitor is going. It is common in LCD monitors of this age. Do yourself a favor and junk it and replace is with a new larger better monitor. They are so much better these days and so much much cheaper.

You can get a 22 inch wide screen monitor on Walmart.com right now for $104.00 and pick it up at your local Walmart with free shipping. Not advocating Walmart necessarily just pointing out. Recycle your old monitor responsibly and pick up a new one. No matter how cheap it is it will be better than what you have now and your current monitor is not worth a technicians time.

If you don't have the money for a new one go to your local thrift shop and get a working 17 inch for $20. Good luck.

Hi..my sony model sdm-hs93 lcd monitor flutters for a couple of seconds right before the screen blanks out. But, if I leave the monitor on for a day in sleep mode, the next day i can hook it up to the...

Hello,

I think the problem with your monitor is that, the picture board on the monitor is malfunctioning that is why it keeps going blank after a minute.

What you need to do is to replace the picture board on your LCD monitor, replacing the picture board will solve the problem, because the picture board on the monitor at the moment is bad and will need to be replace.

Replace the picture board and you will see that the problem will not repeat itself again.

Take care.

I have a sony sdm-hs75, power up then then the screen goes blank, power button is still green, with a bright light I can see the backgroud, caps look good, no cold solder joints. no hot spots on the borad.

try to perform selftest on the monitor..

  1. turn off the monitor
  2. unplug the video cable from the computer
  3. turn on the monitor wihtout the video cable connected to a computer
  4. you should see the information box on the screen (it indicates that there is no problem when you see the information box). Else, monitor backlight is dead.

My sdm-hs73 moniter the power is on but screen is blank, what could be wrong

First check brightness and contrast settings.
If all good could either be your lcd back light has gone or the inverter. To check if its the black light shine a torch through the back of the screen to see if you can see a slight image on it, if you cant see anything the inverter board is faulty and to repair needs to be changed.

Monitor goes blank

Well, I do not think that there is an actual solution for that problem. I had that exact problem and I had to throw mine away. Turn it in to where you bought it and see if they can repair it. Otherwise they will have to replace it.
