Dell all in one 966 printer has delay when printing off computer

If you are printing full-sheet high resolution graphics in color, this is normal. The delay can also occur on lower resolution print jobs due to a print server if you are using this as a shared printer in an office. Try it on another PC to ensure that the issue in not in the computer's set up.

I am trying to set up my printer to print both sides of a card but as it prints one side i do not have enough time to put the card back in to print the other is there a way to set up a delay

I doubt you can set a delay. Maybe try only sending a page to the printer, and then putting the paper in the other way up, and then sending the other page. If this works OK - then if you have a run, print off all copies of the one side, and then repeat for the other side.

Alternatively, if you only have the one page in, it should wait until you put the paper back in, to do the other side.

Printing delay

Go in to the printer properties set-up, and change the attribute to print direct to the printer as like they advised. The re-installation of their software will still not change the property settings.

It seems that the computer is first loading an alocated cache or buffer before it will start printing. This is the reason for the delay. By printing direct, you will bypass this buffer. There are some dissadvantages of going direct. One of them is that the computer will take more time to work in programs during a print session. It will share its real time functions with the printer. My preference would be to have the delay and let the printer work by default.

Delayed printing

in your settings, you most likely need to turn off the delay print setting.
You can set printers to hold everything untill a specific time of day to print.
On that particular machine, I am not 100 pecent sure where that setting is. But you should have a menu button to scroll to setting and search for delay print.
You may be able to access it from your computer on printers properties.

Print delay of second print job

Printer delay can mean a few issues. You may be up to date on your windows, but sometimes this can actually be the issue. I would try updating the actual drivers at the canon website for your printer, and check your drivers are functioning properly first by going to start, control panel, main and per, printers, hardware, drivers. Check for error messages. Sometimes you can repair to fix errors if any. Also run antispyware and virus controls to eliminate these too. I had some malicious spyware that wiped my friends driver for her canon pixma clean off her pc!!! Check all printer settings too in case it is accidentally set to pause after first job.
