It seems to be not as bad when first turned on then within minute ot two it is really bad, cannot even read menu or tell what the pic is. Any help is great.

How do I fix wavy lines on Hauppauge Wintv hvr950q?

Are they wavy lines throughout the picture or are they just wavy on the side? Waving picture is usually caused by poor power supply filtering. Wavy lines throughout the picture are caused by interference. Try moving the device away from the computer with an extension USB cable it may be picking up interference from the surrounding electronic devices. It could also be defective.

My picture is wavy and out of focus. when i touch the auto focus it goes through the function but ends with failure. it is a toshiba 42h81.

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Toshiba 42h81 rptv

Pull chassis--check all fuses,esp, F850 & F851.They protect
the B+ supplied to convergence circuit. They are found in the power
supply,on edge of the main board. On the signal board, locate the
large IC's mounted to heatsinks.IC part #  STK392-110.Between the
edge of the signal board and the IC's---locate two grey jumper wires
and some hard wire jumpers = solder them all,if you don't,the fuse may blow again.Next, replace IC's with Hitachi up-grade part
# STK394-160E....Reassemble...power on.....touch magic focus
and you are done....T.     ?????s-----Let me know...
