You might need to get this checked with the manfucaturer, looks like a malfunctioning remote control. Or you can just replace the remot and see if that helps.

Volume goes down to 0 and the menu goes on and off.

A bad connection on the small signal board may be the problem! Have a Tech check this connection, it may be to tight due to the heat shrink tube. Have them peel it back to reduce the strain! Should work then!

I don't think the IR sensor has anything to do with it. It sounds like a surface mount micro processor to me...
