yes, the door has to engage a switch and if it doesn't the tv will not come on it usually has a 3 blink error if this is the problem. Is your red light flashing in a 3 blink series?

Hi,
When lamp in TV become weak in result and consume more current then its rating , TV gets that symptom, on for few seconds/ minutes, shuts down and turns on itself.
Please replace lamp in TV as procedure is written in user manual of TV and its easy.

Three red blinking lights

I would first always check the lamp to make sure that its not burnt out. On my 50 XBR1 the lamp door is on the right side of the tv. But here is the code for three blinks of the light,

3 times, Diagnosis: +B overvoltage (OVP). Possible causes: IC501 is faulty (G board), IC5002 is faulty (G board). Symptoms of the problem: TV has entered standby mode.

My sony kds r50 xbr-1 ...picture shuts off and blinks a green light (standby) 50+ times. comes on then goes out again ....again...again......... while out I can hear the audio through my sound system. we...

Hmmmm! i suspect the INVERTER that drives the lamp, or it could be the power supply check for swollen capacitors on the board inside, and last it coul be a overheating component (is it wors after it's on for a long time)

My Sony KDS-R50XBR1 has green hues that don't seem to respond to color adjustment in the menu.

It is you Optical Block/OB. sony is offering an exchange/deal for owners of 50 and 60" xbr1. I have contacted them and they are going to send me a new TV at an awesome price. This is do to the class action law suit. optical blocks are very expensive. The tv itself is not woth the investment.

How to replace bulb in kdsr60 xbr1

Unplug Tv from AC for minimum 30 minutes, at right bottom side of TV there is cover. It is lamp cover, open it and pull out old lamp and put new lamp.Screw lamp cover and turn On TV.
Lamp replacement procedure is written in user manual of TV and if you nee to download free copy os user manual, click Sony Support.
