image and premature shut-off are normally due to a defective lamp assembly. I'd recommend
removing the lamp and inspecting its condition. You'll notice black
corrosion build up or a bubble is starting to form around the filament of the bulb if it is what's causing the dim image/premature shut-off.
I just replaced a lamp in a Sony LCD projection that was just over a year old and it was bad. It was a VERY dim picture. You have a DLP but, in either case a dim or dark picture is almost always caused by the lamp.
