This isn't a part that we would recommend fixing yourself as there is risk of further damage to the product.

The spring is typically located beneath the button which you press to release the bin door.

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulty you've had with the bin and cyclone on your machine. We'd like to learn a bit more by taking you through some troubleshooting checks when you have the vacuum easily to hand. It may be a simple fix.

My vacuum had this exact same problem, but was out of warranty because
it was remanufactured. Thankfully, it's a very quick, five-minute fix.
UNPLUG The Vacuum!
Remove the cannister.
Extend the handle and remove it.
Remove the two torx (T-15) screws behind the power button, where the handle normally stows.
There are four tabs holding the front plate containing the power button on; use your screwdriver to release them.
Gently pull the front plate off.
The switch on the right is the power button. Remove it,
try clicking it a few times; if it sticks, great! Replace it and
reassemble, otherwise you'll need to replace it.
Remove the bin and cyclone assembyl by pressing the release button above the word Dyson on the carrying handle towards the machine.
Then hold the bin and cyclone assembly over a dustbin and pull the trigger located underneath the carrying handle which will release the bin base to empty the dust and debris from the bin.
I hope this information is useful to you and should you need any further help or advice, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).
Grasp the handle on top of the cyclone, then press the button which will be just by your thumb. That releases the cyclone (with bin attached) from the rest of the machine. Then unscrew the cyclone from the bin. Job done.
The gasket is sticking to the dump lid. While holding it over a waste receptacle, operate the release button and pull the waste gate at the same time. Rinse the canister and dry thoroughly. Apply a spray of silicone to the gasket surface, let it sit for a minute, and wipe off the excess with a paper towel. This should fix you up.

The catch/latch that is on the bottom of the bin button release has likely broken.
If you take out the canister (as when you are dumping the bin), and flip it upside down and then squeeze the bin release button, you will see that it moves a rod inside the cyclone assembly. At the end of this rod is a plastic (plastic.. redundant, as the entire Dyson is practically plastic) latch that catches onto the bin's lid and locks it in place. A broken latch means it doesn't lock the lid in.
What you need is a replacement latch. Note that the "Bin Release Button + Rod assembly" that are sometimes sold on ebay do *not* contain the latch at the end of the rod. Also the bottom bin assembly does not contain the required parts.
The cyclone assembly should have the full bin release rod + latch, so if you can't find the latch, then a new cyclone assembly would work also (but will cost more, obviously).
