On the back of the device is a reset button. Hold this in for 15-30 seconds and that will reset the device to factory default. This will make your wireless unsecured, allowing connection. Log into the router and resetup your wireless and you will be able to set your new encryption key.

That is very possible. I would reset the router by reset switch on back. Also both routers will tend to build up a static charge loosing the connection. You can unplug it for 10 seconds and replug in.

I would also try setting up new home network using automatic settings.

One PC will not connect to Router and therefore Internet.

Sounds to me like the problem is related to the PC hardware. Please check the following in your PC:

- Network card is properly working
- Network cable connecting to the PC is properly working

Netgear Wireless Router Problems

Use the process of elmination, disconnect Vontage, does the problem go away? If no then look at the modem (cable or dsl).
Hint! If you have a cable modem, make sure all cable connections are tight from the outside of the house, to every TV, and from the wall to the cable modem. Use plyers to tighten all of them.

Bright house modem and desktop computer, trying to hook up wireless net gear router for 2nd desktop to get internet? How do I configure the cables?

Connect the lan cable from the dsl modem into the first port on your netgear router ..
make sure your dsl modem is on PPPoE mode so that it autoconnects..
Now just connect to your wireless router via your pc interface..
*Do add a network key to your wireless network to avoid unwanted access

No connectivity to 2nd desktop or laptop - although worked before

Hello....sudden loss of wireless on two computers, in the same home, may indicate that a powerful source of wireless interference has just arrived (since your wireless router light is still on).

1) Does the signal improve if you move the router, or move the laptop closer to the router?
2) Have you had any success with changing the channel on your router? (Login to router > select Wireless Settings > Channel)

If you have not moved furniture yourself, or installed a device which could interfere with the signal (eg a DECT phone), it's possible a neighbour's new router may be the culprit.

Please come back to Fixya if this does not help.

Does a router or combo need to be connected to computer?

As you already have the modem you only need a router. In all cases the modem connects to the WAN port on the router.

I think your best bet surely would be to go for a wireless router though? Then you wouldnt have to trail ethernet cables all round the house. I'm sure your laptop has a wireless adaptor built in unless it;s very old.

I always use Netgear networking stuff so forgive me posting a link to a nice 54G wireless router :-) :

How to install with out the cd?

Are you using XP? You shouldn't need the CD.

http://www.netgear.com/Home/Products/Adapters/GWirelessAdapters/WG111.aspx

Gives you information about the USB adapter.

http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/GWirelessRouters/WGR614.aspx

That gives you information about your wireless router.

Do you need a manual to set this up? It looks like there are different version of this wireless router. Which one do you have? This can be identified on the package or the unit's bottom label.

Once we know which version you have we can continue.
