How to fix my coverlock from skipping stitches

I have a Bernette Funlock 009DC coverlock machine. When I stitch the seems (like I always did), it is skipping stitches and breaking the right hand thread. I have tried changing the needles, tension, everything I could think of. Could it be the timing that is out?

Looper timing is probably out, maybe even a damaged looper. Take it in for servicing.

It could be that there is a loose piece of thread, or some fluff which is obstructing the tension gauge. Try blowing around the theading area (or even run the hoover pipe near it to see if you can **** it out). I cleared mine by folding a piece of non fluffy material and rubbing gently between the tension dial and machine.

Good luck

SOURCE: Loose stitching underneath. HOW CAN I FIX!!!!

Sounds as though you may have a burr or rough spot on the hook where the bobbin inserts. Run your finger along the edge of the hook to see if there are any rough spots.I'm sure you're going to find at least one from the time you broke the needle.Once you locate it, remove it with an emery stick or small sharpening stone. Polish it so that it is smooth. Should work okay.

SOURCE: skipping stitches and knotting up underneath.

Here are a few things to try.

* Raise your feed dogs if your machine has this feature.

* When you start to sew a seam, hold the upper and bobbin thread tails. Hold them back and out of the way as you sew your first couple of stitches. This will keep them from getting caught in your machine.

* Your fabric may require a different needle. Generally, heavier fabrics require larger needles and thinner fabrics, smaller needles. You may also need a larger needle if you’re sewing through many layers of fabric. And make sure to use a ballpoint needle for knit fabrics and a sharp needle for woven (or a universal needle for either). And make sure your needle is appropriate for the type of thread you’re using.

* Adjust the pressure of your pressure foot, it may be too light for your fabric.

* If your upper thread and bobbin threads are different types, try using the same thread for both. And use a good quality, brand name thread.

* Change your needle plate. Try switching to a needle plate with a smaller hole (a straight stitch needle plate).

Important Note: If you change your needle plate, check to make sure your needle aligns perfectly with this smaller hole before starting to sew. A misaligned needle could hit the plate and break, which could be dangerous. And make sure to change your needle plate back for zigzag and other wide stitches.

Hope this helps.

My machine is skipping stiches it seems its not picking up from the bobbin

Install a brand new needle and confirm it is inserted with the flat side facing the proper direction.. A bent, damaged needle will sometimes cause skipped stitches or even needle strikes inside the machine. A new needle is the least expensive cure for a lot of sewing machine problems. The needle should be changed about every 8 hours of sewing or at least when starting a new project.

Remove the top thread. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct.

Sometimes, skipped stitches will occur if the needle, thread, and fabric are incompatible. Be sure to use the correct needle for your project. Use a good quality thread--AVOID old or bargain bin thread!

If the machine continues to skip stitches, then it may be out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

My machine is skipping stitches

Lower the pressure on the feed dogs, use a stretch stitch, and longer stitch length. Be sure to use a good quality thread, and maybe go lighter weight thread.

Coverlock skipped stitches

I'm assuming this is a domestic overlocker machine and not an industrial coverlock. Getting the coverlock stitch to sew out evenly without skipping can be problematic apparently with these.

First, if you are sewing a knit fabric, change the needles to ball points and see if this resolves it.

If not, I would suggest trying EX705 needles (assuming that your machine takes the regular domestic 130/705H needle system). The EX are just extra long scarf at the back which helps with securing the stitch on the underside. There is also a SUX needle, which is same long scarf but a stretch needle; for knits particularly those with elastane in them.

Thread wise, try Maxilock brand. You may find a wooly overlock thread on the underside works too.
