Most likely in these situations it is a driver problem. First things first, make sure your BIOS is up to date. If not, follow this link to update your BIOS:

After the update, enter your bios and make sure your onboard modem is enabled. This could be another problem - the modem MUST be enabled in BIOS in order to work.
Additionally, there are drivers available for your specific motherboard model - go to the following site:

These are windows drivers for your motherboard - they work across nearly all windows platforms.
