The maytag dishwasher is about 20 years old. it was used in the spare downstairs kitchen and this last time it took water but the washing parts on the bottom did not start and usually it drains first but it just hums a little and does not drain. tried different cycles with the same results.
SOURCE: not draining
check that the pump/filter is not blocked or that the drain hose is not "back filling from the sink waste piping -if it is plumbed in there.
SOURCE: Water Will not Drain
It could be cause the water level switch. The level switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. I am not familiar with your machine, but if you will open the rear panel you will find it easily. Clear tube from any obstruction. Good luck !

Check disposer plug. If a garbage disposer has been recently installed, it is possible the disposer drain plug was not removed. The drain plug is a plastic piece in the disposer that blocks the hole where the dishwasher hose connects. Also check the hose connected to the disposal. Mine apparently had a kink in it. When I straightened the hose the dishwasher drained at full speed (I recently had a plumber re-route a hot waterline. He must has bent the hose). Hope this helps. If not go to the GE website. That's where I found my answer.

remove the kick panel below the door, place a pan, etc under where the drain hose connects to the drain extension tube, and slide the clamp back some so you can slide the hose off of the extension tube (white plastic tube) and drain any excess fluid into the aforementioned pan, etc., then unscrew the extension tube and check for plugs, or restrictions.
the sump may also be pluged beneath the strainer assembly, and that requires removing the lower spray arm, the water tube that runs up the inside back of the unit, and the upper parts of the assembly below them to access the drain/pump sump area.
last but not least the impeller is jamed and might be able to be freed by removing whatever has lodged within there..
ya never know...
best of luck,
