Wind up film button

Ive got a pentax super A and ive rewound the film using by pressing in the button on the base and then winding the film back up. That worked fine but now the button on the base will not pop back out and i think that is causing my camera to not take any pictures. For this is another problem i am having where I am pressing the shutter release button but nothing happens. Any ideas on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I pushed in my rewind button, rewound my film, took it out, all as normal. Now, my rewind button is stuck in, my shutter won't press and my film advance lever isn't sticking (it's loose). I think all of this stems from the rewind button being stuck in... how do I get it out? Thanks

Did you check the batteries? What "Poolsman" mentioned in his response is a common problem with Pentax cameras of this age, but if the batteries are flat the camera will not release-or fire. If the camera is charged-or wound- when you push the rewind button but will not release after you rewind the film, the problem may be bad batteries. Check that first. If that's not the problem then "Poolsman's" advice is probably correct.

This is a common problem with the older Pentax SLRs : shutter / mirror box needs servicing . The problem is caused by perished rubber parts. Although the problem is easy to fix, it has to be carried out by a pro because the mirror box has to be removed from the camera so that one can have access to the shutter and the side of the m-box where the problem is. Costs ? +- $150.

Don't know how to open the film door

To open the film door just pull the rewind crank upwards. Make sure that you have rewound the film first though! (press the rewind button on the bottom rear right of the baseplate, and then turn the rewind crank clockwise until you feel the film disengage from the take-up spool).

Please take a moment to rate my reply.

Film has not rewound but has 'reverted' to showing

On the toplate of the camera, to the left hand side, is a button which slides to the left. It is marked with a film cassette outline, and two arrows to the left <| <|

At any time, you can use this button to rewind the film back into the cannister. It should make a whirring noise for 5-10 seconds, and will stop automatically.

If it makes no noise, you may have a flat battery, or the film may already be rewound.

You can insert new power (battery) without affecting the film cassette, if need be.

However, if really unsure, then:
1) Slide the rewind button to rewind(i.e. to the left).
2) Familiarise yourself with where the back opening latch is.
3) Go into a pitch black room. Preferably under a quilt in a pitch black room.
4) Open the back and take out the cassette. If it comes freely, its probably fully rewound. If its still attached to the take-up spool by film, then (holding the film by the edge only) pull on the film to release it slowly from the take up spool. Whilst it can be quite a tug, they are designed to let go of it "under protest". (Do not pull it so hard that you strip the gears, but fairly firmly).
5) Using the spool winder on the top of the cassette, wind the trailing film back into the cannister. If you've never seen a 35mm cassette, then in the dark one end has an elevated round part, the other end has a void into the cassette. You can tell the elevated part, and start winding - it should only wind one way and feel like its winding onto the reel (wind the other way and it feels like its unwinding - even in the dark!)
6) Only when you are sure film is in the cannister, can you turn on the light.

Films are very sensitive to light, so if you do not feel comfortable doing this procedure in total darkness, go to a photo processing store who will do this for you, usually for no charge (other than the hope you'll let them process the film). They put your camera in a sort of black pillowslip, but the procedure is the same.

Hope this helps

Pentax me super camera, not working wind on lever

The clip spring broke jambing the advance gear. by forcing, the tab on the advance shaft broke.
take or send your camera to a camera repair shop for an estimate cost to repair.
there are no new parts for this model so the repairs could be expensive.
there should be no cost for an estimate.

Pentax me super can not advance the film advance

if the re-wind button is not stuck in, then the tab on the advance shaft is broken off. this small piece of metal will jamb the gears eventually.
take or send your camera to a repair shop for a cost estimate before repair as there are no new parts available for this model .

Pentax ME Super Shutter and Rapid Wind Button...

anmolag,

it could be the rubber bumper next to the fresnel lens has become sticky. very gently ( after removing lens ) try to bring mirror down without forcing it. it should release easily.
if not, rotate the select knob off auto. open film door and check that the shutter is fully deployed, shutters should not be overlapping.
remove screws from bottom cover and remove cover, keep camera up side down so that re-wind button stays put. there is a locking lever under the take up spool ( gray ) . with a pin move lever toward film door and bring advance lever fully to the right , then let it go so it returns quickly.
the shutter should have fired. if not the camera will need to be repaired. get an estimate first as there are no new parts available.

Also, I just tried the delayed picture-taking lever, ??????? you mean self timer. if you have used self timer then unless the cycle is completed the camera will stuck in the middle, with the mirror locked up. Try releasing the self timer by moving the lever manually. if nothing major defect is theirin the self timer it will release by doing this.
