Canon Pixma MP150 Error code E 42

The printer powers up but after a few whirring noises displays E-4-2. I understand from other help links that this refers to a scanner fault. The scanner light bar does move about 1" to the left before returning on power up. There's no light when this happens - should there be? Then the error code comes up, together with the amber warning triangle light and the on-off button light flashes. Any ideas please?

Had exact same problem. Scanner light should come on at power up. Found ribbon cable connecting scanner unit to base had come unplugged from socket on circuit board. The ribbon cable is one of three found near back hinge of scanner and is hidden underneath the other two. It should drape over the edge of circuit board and then plug into small recepticle on inner side of board. I plugged it in and printer works again. Hope this helps.

My model don't want to go in the service mode. After releasing the power button the printer turns off instead of going into service mode.

Hi, I had the error E 4 2 and finally figured it out! I opened the printer up (just normally like if you were replacing the ink cartridge) and then kinda pushed the thick white cable back into the right hand side of where the ink cartridges are and then it worked normally! The cable was just a bit lose I guess, it had gotten pulled out a little.

Canon PIXMA MP450 "Servic Error 5100"

Try this... it worked on my MP450... Turn the printer on and open the lid, it shows the cartridges. Now let the cartridges settle to the left. You can notice that the cartridges run on a metal belt. It might be dirty, mine showed a black stripe on it. Take a cloth, a cleenex will be fine and clean it up. Move the cartridges to the right (force them with your hand) and clean the part of the belt left behind them. Now turn it off, close it up and turn it back on. It should work
