My HP P2015 prints horizontal lines across paper, suspecting it has something to do with toner spilling on the drum. Any suggestions for how to clean it?

Hi Richard, Dots, Lines
and smudges on the printouts are usually due to deteriorating cartridges and
cleaning the green drum of the cartridge may help temporarily. Take out
the cartridge and inspect them. You may observe the lines on the green drum. Gently clean the roller/ green drum with a dry, soft,
lint-free cloth wiping off the toner dots marks/ lines. (corresponding
to the location where you are having a green line on the paper) Also,
make sure that the visible inside of the printer are clean and there is
no spilled toner inside, which sometimes results in dots. Moreover,
streaks
(thicker lines) and dots etc indicate faulty PCR Roller which is located
behind the
green drum inside the cartridge. Observing the PCR with the help of a sharp torch light would let you assess the condition of the PCRs at the corresponding location where lines are appearing. Replace the Cartridges one by one and inspect the prints for the changes. I think you would be able to identify the faulty cartridge/ rollers. Also, if the waste toner area is filled and/or the plastic wiper/ cleaning blade removes the leftover toner/ waste from the drum and holds the waste is worn out, it results in spilled toner usually at edges and at early stages lines only. Moreover, the function of the fuser is to fuse the toner onto the paper and it is usually done at the end of the printing process just before the paper is ejected (and the image/ toner on the paper is just fused - not changed). The fault at the fuser area usually results in smudges, ghosted image or unbind toner (which easily gets erased when touched). The time during the printing cycle when the toner is spread on the paper, additional toner (resulting in lines) is shifted to the paper due to cartridge related issues, which results in lines. Note that after cleaning the rollers, the print quality improves and the lines disappear or lighten. Try and check if the above suggestions work.

Dirty
print
out is basically due to cartridge related issues.
HP Laserjet P2015 uses HP53A Cartridge.Take out the
cartridge and inspect it under torch light. You would notice the line(s) on the green drum. Gently clean its drum/ (green roller) with a dry, soft,
lint-free cloth. The drum is located under a cover which can slide with a little push. Checkout
for any spilled toner inside the printer and clean it also. Print a few
pages so that the parts get further cleaned. I think, this would solve
the issue. Please note that, this step may help temporarily, if the cartridge and its parts are worn out. In that case it is always better to replace the toner cartridge. Moreover, streaks
(thicker lines) and dots etc indicate faulty PCR Roller which is located
just behind the
green drum inside the cartridge. Try to clean it too. It requires a bit of improvisation because it is difficult to clean it fully. If the problem persists, replace the toner cartridge with a genuine one or get
the PCR Roller changed by a professional. If the cartridge is old

1) try doing a full clean from within the menu on the printer, or within the computer software
2) You need to perform a half test. Put a sheet of paper on the manual feeder and do a config page from the information menu on the printer. When the back edge of the paper enters the printer, quickly open the toner door to stop the printing. Now remove the toner cartridge and look at the image below. If the defect is present, then the toner cartridge is the problem 99% of the time. There is a slight possibility that during the conditioning stage of the print process the drum of the toner is not being fully discharged so when the next stage takes places part of the previous image gets put on the toner cartridge again. Very rare. If the defect is not present then the fuser has an issue.
A dark line on the hp 2500 series can come from the drum You can't clean it at home), it can come from a toner cartridge, from the fuser unit and from the optics. Step one - check if the line in all colors, run copy quality check through Menu and diagnostics, if the line is only on one color your problem is the toner cartridge. Step two - if the line is on all colors, take the drum unit out and look at the drum, if you see the line on the drum you need to replace the drum unit. Step three - stop a print in during the printing process by turning the printer off, take out the drum and look at the printed paper under the drum, if the printed page is clear of line your problem is in the fuser. Good luck.

thin lines? spaced about 1.5 inches apart could be toner left on the drum, take the cartridge out turn it over and retract the shutter, manually turn the drum using your thumbs on the edges of the drum, do you see thin lines on the drum? sometimes something sticky gets on the drum attracting toner and then it transfers to the paper during the copy process
Hey Paul,
Can you post a scan of the printed paper? It may help diagnose your problem.
The most common cause of lines accross the page is either the PhotoConductor Unit or the 2ND BTR Assy.
