Does this monitor have built in speakers?

Connect the speakers to the audio port provided on the computer.

Desktop units don't have buit-in speakers.

Will will need to purchase a pair.

Use the controls on the LCD monitor to cycle through the available "inputs" (cable, A/V, VCR, DVD, HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA) that are available. Which inputs are available, and which are "greyed-out" ?

HP w2207 has built-in speakers (Integrated rear facing). All you have to do is connect the LCD and PC (Sound output) using Audio Cable (Stereo).

Unfortunately, this monitor does not come out with integrated speakers, thus you need to get additional speakers if you need some sound.

Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages.
