SOURCE: sudden death acer l100

Ive had the same problem died on me and wont switch on but I found itas a different capacitor on the board same value as the one mentioned I replaced the 1st one and stikk didnt work so replaced the 2nd & 3rd cap as they looked swollen and it worked, I couldnt find a 6.3 1000uf so I used 63v 1000uf slightly larger but fitted ok,
I dont know if it was the 2nd or 3rd cap that was faulty as I replaced both at the same time.
See the image attache and you can see where they are located also you can see they are swollen
Oh forgot to mention make sure you use high temp caps to replace them ie 105cfdc3128.jpg

My acer aspire l100 keeps shutting off. it sometimes will stay on for like two minutes but most of the time it shuts down after like 30 seconds. it works fine in safe mode. most of the time it shuts off...

this seems like a software issue . if you can not run your system but ift works fine in safe mode try to run a system restore from factory disks and see where that gets you,

Thanks for the response to my Acer L100. have checked the cables and they are fine. have noticed the fan doesn't start up when the computer is switched on....could this be the problem???

The CPU fan should turn on when the PC is powered on, and then it usually slows down until the workload on the processor causes it to heat up, then the fan spins faster, it might also be a power supply issue, but if your able to boot and its giving you messages and not shutting down then you should re-install the operating system.

Acer Aspire L100 overheating

You could try a new cpu fan and heatsink. They are normally inexpensive. if this does not work make sure all the case fans are working and check to see if your ram is overheating

Possible overheating problem for Acer Aspire mini L100

I am not totally sure if this is the problem, but I would suggest that you may have a power supply issue or possibly it going out. If the computer runs fine, and then shuts down, than this can be more symptomatic to a overheating issue.

In my limited experience with overheat issues, the computer actually smelled like it was getting hot, and then it would slow down and then sometimes stop. Most computers have fail safe settings where they either alarm, or shut down or both when they overheat.

Computer will not shut down

I have not switched to Vista, but I would try starting the Task Manager (right click on the task bar and select task manager). Then I would select the Processes tab and start killing processes to see if you can track down which one is causing your problem. Assuming you can narrow this problem down to a single process you'll at least have a fighting chance at solving fixing this.

Good luck.
