yes exhaust is hot, but outlet to pool does not get warm it stays the same temp as the inlet, even after about 20 minute of heater running. there are no visible leaks anywhere and it runs as it did on day one, with the exception of said issue. Im stumped its driving me nuts.

With heater running put your hand by the exhaust and see if the air being expelled is hot. It will be if heater is producing heat. Depending on the size of the pool this heater can take some time to heat the water.

yes exhaust is hot, water at outlet is not warm even after 20-30 min it is same temp as water going in, there are no visible leaks or anything else that would appear suspect, it looks/runs as it did on day one with the exception of said issue, this is driving me nuts.

SOURCE: sta rite 400na gives error code 05 after about 30 seconds

I am not sure if you have received an answer to the issue, or not, but just in case! An EO5 error code is an open stack flue sensor, or switch, There are two forms of the stack flue sensor, so you will need to know which one you have on the heater.

What this error code means is that the sensor "read" the flue temp to be over 500 degrees. Usually, it is just gone bad and reading the wrong temp.

SOURCE: sta rite pool heater error r=5?

The users manual for these pool heaters has a chart that walks you through, step by step, a troubleshooting guide. That is the best way to find a solution to your problem because it asks pretty specific questions that you have to be looking at your heater to answer. Here is a link to the pdf file.

These pool heaters have a detailed users manual that has a great troubleshooting guide. I would try there first. They ask alot of questions that you have to be looking at the heater to answer. Here is a link to an online version.
