Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Chamberlain 1/2 HP door opener will not work (102 1499A))

Door will open about 6 inches and then stop and motor just hums. Same with close. If you pull or push with motor then will open and close -- but considerable force required and every little bit either way, will stop unless manual assistance is continued. Disengage and opens and closes fairly easily. 3 flashes of the light whenever it stops and starts to hum -- after about 5 seconds, the motor will simply stop.

My issue and solution.

102 1499a Chamberlain LiftMaster Security Plus + 1/2 HP

I have the 1499a same as the 1355

http://www.liftmaster.com/lmcv2/pages/productmodeldetail.aspx?modelId=9578 See pg 35 of pdf

The user guide or manual has the answer . Error - Door opens but doesn't close with the remote. OR Door doesn't close, hold the doorbell (wall) button.

My issue the sensor it had a short, one of the wires broke. I stripped it and reconnect the break. Very simple, once that was done the led lit up. The light would blink 10 times prior to correcting the short. The copper wiring is very thin. When I wrapped the copper around the terminal point it broke but the casing was still over the wire I couldn't see the break. Secondly I needed to program the remote I pressed the "learn" and then I pressed the remote button the light blinked once and it was done.

Remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is white nylon and is probably stripped.

Sounds like the clutch in the motor is slipping, perhaps the chain is getting kinked on something. check to make sure there is nothing in the way of it and that it is on track going into the motor

Chamberlin Garage door is pinned up against a hard safety stop bolt that is about 6 inches from the motor casing. When I push the. remote, the motor briefly strains trying to raise then shuts off. Fix

If it is hitting the hard stop the motor is tripping the torque overload. Most door openers have open and close limit adjustments check those and set them up properly. On a door there is a low limit a high limit an electric eye across the door and as a last fail safe a torque overload limit. torque limit is normally unchangable you need to adjust the high limit maybe located on the back of the unit. It might be called the up limit and the down limit

Linear garage door opens and closes when close to unit about 10 '

when the door stops moving when going down, pull the emergency release handle on the door and then push the door closed by hand. Once it's closed push the emergency handle back so it engages the chain. Open the door and close it a few times to make sure it closes all the way with the motor.

The low humming sound is the motor that opens and closes the drawer. It is moving, but the movement is not being transferred to the door by a pulley, a belt or a gear, When you open the drawer completely, it should stop. When the drawer is closed completely it continues to run until the disc is in the proper position to play. As long as that motor is running the DVD will not work because the disc is not in the proper position,

usually the humming sound is coming from the motor, try this, open the door, turn the drum with one hand and hold the door switch in with your other hand and have someone else push the start button at the same time, this might help the motor turn on but if it does you need a new motor,if you can't turn the drum you could have something stuck in the blower wheel or something jammed in the motor like a broken belt but like i said a humming sound is usually the motor.

I had a door doing the same thing. My issue was that one of the wires in the plastic track that folds up was damaged. Basically, as the plastic track folded up to where there was a cut in the wire, the copper inside the plastic insulation pulled apart. Once you were past that point in the wire (where the door stops), the copper came back together and the door operated again.

Garage door only raises about two inches then stops.

Check the door springs and also remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. The door spring could be broken or the drive gear may be stripped.

The sensors only work when the door is closing.

My door closes fine, but when opening, it only

Remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and may be stripped. If so you will also find what looks like white sawdust inside the motor unit.

Craftsman 1/2 HP garage opener opens only 6 inches

Remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. It may be stripped. Take a close look at those door springs. They can sometime appear to be okay when one is broken.

Garage Door opened but will not close. I opened

I think the trolley has jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. Remove the bolt and then run the door until it is closed. With the door closed locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit. Turn this 2 turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Replace the bolt.
