I should have added more information. It is a new dishwasher.
The dishwasher is connected to a separate drainage system (i.e. not through the kitchen sink). The plumber says that the drainage line is fine and the dishwasher technicians says that the dishwasher is operating correctly (he showed me that the dishwasher draining completely when not connected to the drainage). The builder has recommended we reroute the dishwasher drainage through the kitchen sink but that will leave a air hole on the side of the sink.
Is it possible that the height of the drainage is more than what the pump can handle?I should have added more information. It is a new dishwasher.

yes it is possible but just buy a plug and my opinion.a hose clamp to block the hole or buy a new drain assembly but I still think it's the pump.yes it is possible but just buy a plug and my opinion.a hose clamp to block the hole or buy a new drain assembly but I still think it's the pump.

If water does not drain at all then the drain pump could be blocked. If only a little water is remaining but cycle is complete, then this is normal. However, do check the kitchen drain is clear and you do not have a garbage disposer (insinkerator) in sink which is full. Normally empty it before you start the dishwasher. Do you get any alarms (lights flashing etc)

Hi,
Here is a tip that I wrote that will help you with your dishwasher not draining
problem...
If the water doesn't drain from your dishwasher, check these:
Drain line/air gap--A clog in this part is the usual
reason that a dishwasher doesn't drain. Remove the drain line to clear
any debris from the hose or hose connection at the household drain line
connection. Reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher again.
Pump--You can reach the pump from inside the
dishwasher. Remove the lower rack, spray arm and support. Look for an
impeller, a device that spins around and forces water through the spray
arm. This is the wash impeller and beneath it is the drain impeller
that pushes the water into the drain port. Replace it if found
defective or worn out.
Drain valve/solenoid---The drain valve may have a
solenoid with lever that sticks or frozen and prevents the dishwasher
from draining. Free up the solenoid and lubricate the lever.
Belt---A certain brand of dishwasher uses a belt to drive the pump. Replace it if broken or worn out.
Motor---Check it if turning or working.Turn the rotor
manually to see if stuck and free it up. Replace if defective, it is
not serviceable.
try pressing the cancel/drain button.Do you hear water draining into sink freely?? if not i would disconnect drain undersink look for a clog right there first
it should have water just below filter tray, if it does not actually empty then you have a blockage ,remove left side panel to gain access to drain pipe and side chamber.

Engineer
