Convergence ICs cost around 15-25 each there are only two of them. I would go ahead and replace both of them because if one goes the other one will follow shortly. I would make sure that it is just the convergence IC not something else, and if its over five years old dont pay more than $500.

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.convergence chip - 2c07611.png/>2c07611.pngSolution #1

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo2_bing.gif STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Hi,
This is symptom of bad convergence that happens due to failure of convergence output chips in tv, there are two big black chips attached with big aluminum heat sink that will be replaced to solve tv issue.
If you are not familiar with electronics stuff repair then call local tv repairman to replace above said chips to fix the problem.
Hope this will help.
Thanks.

I have a blue double image on my panasonic pt-47wx49e projector tv. I've tried to adjust the convergence from the set up menu. But no matter how many times I try to adjust the green or the blue, only the...

If you go into the customer menu and select convergence and it is skewed you need to remove the light box and replace both of the STK-392-110 CONVERGENCE IC chips this set uses.

I HAVE START TO FINISH, STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS REPAIR IN THIS SET--I can post them here if you think you or someone you know can do the repair.

Most shops get 300 or more for this repair--if you buy the chips on Ebay (I can tell you the seller to look for there) they and any other parts should total under 30 dollars. The fact that the set is still coming on means most likely just the two chips need to be replaced and the set adjusted with the Panasonic remote for this set.

If you have questions or want the instructions rate this solution and let me know and I will post them here---I do this here for FREE.

Panasonic 53" tv

Blue background lines with colors otherwise OK may be a loose or dirty blur drive potentiometer on small circuit board behind front grille and beneath front imerboard cover. These are hot-glued in place from factory but may be the cause f the problem. They're VERY sensitive.

If you have bowed blue lines instead of properly aligned colors, you probably have a blown convergence amplifier IC. These boards are no longer available so yours will have to be repaired. Some shops repair them but many send them out for 6-10 weeks. Fairly expensive too considering the amplifier chips are about $35 each (x2).

Panasonic 47 inch Projection tv PT-53WX42F

Sounds like your convergence chips are going. Unless you are real handy with soldering iron I would suggest having a tv repair shop service it(probably cost $200-300). If you are handy then I believe the chips you need are Sanyo STK392-110. There should be 2 of them. be careful if you order them online, there are lots of chinese knock-offs out there.

Convergence chip

Now is this what really is the problem is your friend's have a tech man tell him so? in any case you're looking at roughly $150-300 repair cost plus labor. but you can try the following your self by entering the service mode follow this steeps: Read the _ SERVICE MODE WARNING _ before proceeding. To enter service mode, push and hold the [Menu] button on the set. While holding, push and release the [Power] button, then the [Vol +] button. You will now have some information on the screen: "P0 V0" To actually be able to change these values, you must push [Vol +] on the remote so the information reads V76. Then pushing on the Channel +/- will change the "P" value. P1 - 3 are error codes. If there is a problem with the set that can be self-diagnosed, the "V" will report the code. These codes are available in the RCA repair manual. P4 - 7 control the horizontal size, shift, vertical size and shift. You may also find a summary leaflet for the service tech clipped somewhere inside the chassis. The procedures for getting into the service mode, as well as the service items of interest will be there. If you're attempting to adjust color or geometry errors, you'll need the Video Essentials DVD, Laser Disc or some other source of test material. Adjust the problems manually with any luck you might be able to get it back to normal. Good Luck!
