There is a switch inside the front door that is not making contact when the door closes, making the printer think that the front door is open. The switch is recessed in the housing. Look for a plastic knob that protrudes from the front door that will mate with a hole in the frame. Inside this hole is the switch. Try activating the switch manually with a screwdriver to make sure the switch is functioning. If it is, you will need to take off the cover and reposition the switch forward. If it does not activate manually, the switch must be replaced.

I have a Dell 1815dn all-in-one laser printer. I have a "open door front door' error message rendering my machine inoperable. Any suggestions on how to clear this?

Hey, make sure the front door is shut, if it is, you most likely need to replace the High Voltage Power Supply (Part# WH773). Iteminc.com has this part and can ship same day. The sensor which reads if the door is open can go bad and it is part of the HVPS.

I have following message "Door Open" and "Front Door" in the Dell 1815dn All-In-One. I checked that door is properly closed, then I checked sensor and press it by clipper, message is still coming out. I...

This message is usually down to thesensor on the HVPS. Firstly check that the switch related to thefront door doesn't have a blue cover on it. (Some call out techsreplace the HVPS and leave the switch cover on). Removing the RHScover firstly (4 screws) and then removing the arm that toggles theswitch (1 screw) should allow you to see if the switch has a coveron it. If this is ok then you would need to take apart the HVPS andclean the sensor and if this still doesn't help then replace the HVPSboard..This will take some time to do so a good read of the manual isrecommended.

Printer saying door is open?

Sometimes is not the door, even if the door closed it still says open, check the sensor or the switch of that door, clean it, and make sure there is no small paper stucking in there.

Dell Laser MFP 1815 won't print. Message keeps coming up Jam 2 open rear and front door. Have opened and shut doors repeatedly, restarted printer, tried copying over message but it keeps being displayed....

I had same problem. If you go to rear of printer and open the back door you'll see it is attached to a blue connector. Unattached it so that the door opens fully and then unflap the inside roller assembly. Next open the fuser door and you'll notice a little spring loaded assembly on the inside of the opened fuser door. This is where my problem was. Make sure that the assembly springs back when pushed because part communicates with a sensor on the motherboard. If it doesn't spring back then the printer thinks there is a jam. Mine was stuck but after pushing it a few times it started to work freely again. This was a frustrating problem but that fixed my issue and hopefully it will fix yours.
