The only sound you can turn off is the optional spell check feature which is done by holding down the code button (left of the spacebar) and then hitting the number 1. Any other beeps cannot be turned off.

The ribbon drive motor might be n/g. I think 6 beeps is the ribbon motor located under the gear on the ribbon cartridge.

The problem may be that the carrier is binding on return, put some light lube (WD40 works well) on the silver shaft that the carrier slides on.
