Coby MP3 USB port loose and wriggly?

Before last night it was fine- the small USB port in the MP3 would accept the wire and connect to the computer. But Last night and tonight, it's extremely loose. I've tried different wires and different computer ports, but it's not working. Any way to fix it?

It's not an internal thing, the chip-thing that goes into the usb connector has a piece of metal that holds that section together, and it's wriggly. I've tried all my usb wires and all my usb computer slots.

If you know anyone who can solder surface mounted parts they can probably solder it back. Sounds like usb connecter has come loose from the circuit board.

SOURCE: new Coby MP822-4G MP3 player frozen on Welcome screen

I tried to contact Coby via their website email links (General and Techsupport) to no reply. I returned it for a full refund to the store and bought a Emerson. That worked.

Testimonial: "Thanks for you approach. I did the exact same thing! Yet, the Emerson I got had problems of its own that lead me to return it after 2 weeks."

SOURCE: Computer doesn't recognize unit when connected

I had the same problem where I accidently removed the player from the computer while the files were transfering. When I pluged it into my computer, it said that the device had a malfunction. Take the battery out of your mp3 player for a few days. I did and now I am able to transfer music to my mp3 player.

Wriggly USB port

Typically this is the beginning of the end for your player. However there are some things to try. You can take a pair of pliers and bend ever so slightly as USB cable so that it places pressure on the bottom part of the connection on your MP3 player. I would try this with a cable you don't care for. I wouldn't suggest doing anything with the player. So many users bring my their blackberries that have the same issue. Most users do not come back to see me for quite a while or until the device is dead. These devices require tight connections, the only other option is pressure and that is what bending the plug does. Lastly, notice the two little notches that come from the wider side of the metal part of the USB connection. Are they protruding up even slightly? That may tell you something is wrong with your USB cables.

Coby MP3 Player not recognized on laptop Windows 7

Hi. Please confirm that the device shows up under 'Computer' as a Removable Disk drive (disregard CMM) for the time being. If it doesn't and it still does not recognize, most like it is indeed the cable. Yes, the cable could function other devices but that usually is the issue, it doesnt give a good enough connect to our MP3 players. Also, laptops have an option to disable the USB power to conserve battery, so that also seems to interfere.

I recently purchased a new computer as my last died, taking all my music files with it. I have a Coby MP300 and want to transfer my files to my computer from the MP3 player. The Coby site says I should be...

Connect the supplied USB cable to your Coby and then plug the other end of the cable into the USB port of your new computer. The computer will see the Corby as an external storage device, you can the open the music folder on the Corby and copy these files to your computer.

Charging

If the player won't stay on after disconnecting from the USB port, it means that the wire connection between the battery and mini board is either loose or disconnected. Since the wire is disconnected from the battery, the MP3 won't have a power source.

Unlike if it's connected to the USB port, it will turn on because the USB port could provide enough amount of power for the player to turn on.

If the player is still under the warranty, you may send it to the manufacturer for free repair. But if it's out of the warranty period, you may open it and re-solder the wire. Or you may simply send it to a tech to do the fix.

Thank you and good luck!

Computer does not recognize Coby MP822 4G MP3 player

The actual MP3 player should display a USB connection on the screen, if not, I would say its a connection issue (bad USB cable), my guess is your using a laptop, a lot of laptops disable their USB power options, you probably need to re-enable your USB ports, if desktop, it should show a USB connection on MP3, if not, battery or cable issue.

Unable to charge unit (brand new)

Hello,

Are you on a laptop? Only possible issue is that with laptops, most have a feature which disables the power on the USB ports if not used frequently..besides that, if you plug the unit into the USB port, it should charge, if not, you have a faulty battery.

Coby accepts gifts for warranty, they just need a letter head showing you received it as a gift and they will replace the unit, see below for requirements:

What you need to send:

$6 Money Order -Made out to 'Coby Electronics' 'return shipping fee'
Letterhead showing you received unit as a gift
Note with your name, address, phone#, description of issue
Unit with all the accessories

Send to:

HELP ME PLEASE!!

I'm not sure which Coby I have but my computer wouldn't read it when I plugged it into the USB port. What worked for me was to take out the battery, plug it into the USB port, add a couple of mp3 songs, unplug it and plug it back in. It was recognized with all the existing media on it and I could edit and delete. Hopefully you have room to add an mp3 or two. My solution last time it happened was to reformat and reload.
