1993 52 inch rear projection rca tv

When the unit is powered on, it comes on and then shuts off. Using either the switch or a remote.Any thoughts?

    Hi Moviebuff,

    We have the same problem with our LG RU52SZ30, I took it to a TV repair place and they said I needed to change the chassis which is a $1800 excersise which is nearly as much as the tv. I haven't done anything with it.

    Have you had any luck as your problem sounds the same as ours.

    I am sure it is just one component which is apart of the chassis, finding which one is the key.

    Any input would be great.

I have this kind of tv1993 52 inch rear projection rca tv - 1.gif model ru-52sz30 and same problem which i fixed by replacing the bulb. there is an access door at the back of tv that you can replace the bulb. if you need more help just post reply again.

Those type of tv sets get unusually hot at times. Could be a heat issue. Power flow at night is the best. If it's still turning off then, it must be a dust or heat issue.

Our RCA high-def 52 inch TV is shutting off on
It has you Posted as a projection TV and Not DLP, if Fan to Lamp stops running set will shut off to protect Lamp,I had a DLP that would play sometimes 30 mins then shut off drove me crazy trying to firgure it out and it turn out to be Fan would stop running I replaced Fan TV working fine . When you remove back engage toggler switch to up position put a piece of tape on it to hold it is a safty switch ,then turn tv on watch to see if all fans are running also if when tv trys to come on is there a spark coming from Ballast Board if so your new Lamp is defective it does happen if not your ballast board maybe Bad it is what turns on Lamp.If all fans are running Ballast Board.

Your TV is overheating.. easiest remedy is to point a fan at the back of the TV or... clean the inside of the TV, Im sure its full of dust and stuff... this prevents air circulation inside the TV thus creating more heat...

have u been using the buttons on the front?

if so it could be the button is stuck on the tv..

ok lets begin... shut off? ...is the set staying off. 56 inch RCA rear proj T.V.
Sounds like the capicator on the high voltage is swelled,removing the back cover,make sure to unplug the unit first,there is a u shaped heat sink about middle ways of the board,inside that heat sink is a cap,it will be swelled on top of it,its a 2200 35v cap.
