My father in laws 2002 Ford Taurus will not start. The ingnition switch seems to be working. I can feel the starter relay click, but the starter solenoid does not engage. I have replaced the starter already, I checked the fuse, that is good. Tried swapping the starter relay, still does not start. Can not find any obvious loose connections.
Tried jumping it with another car but still nothing. According to the owners manual, the security keys are working correctly, the "theft" light goes off after 3 seconds while in the on position. Next step is checking the battery, or replacing it. After that, check that the 'security' key or whatever is used on that vehicle isn't messed up. Might be a fuse for that as well.

Yep the solinoid is sticking on. But make sure ur key is not staying in start mode either. Also confirm the stsrter relay is in Good working order. It should not feel really really hot. Warm is ok. Hot not so much U should replace ur starter n u will do fine
I don't think so. The starter has a solonoid on it. There isn't a relay involved. Check for power at the small wire on the starter when the key is in the "start" position. If there is power there ,the starter is bad. If not, could be neutral safety switch or ignition switch.
Dead or weak battery, corroded or loose terminals, bad cable, bad solenoid (starter relay), bad ignition switch, bad neutral safety interlock, driver forgot to put car in park or neutral before starting, bad wiring. When you turn the key, do you hear anything, like maybe a clicking noise, or is the car completely silent?
check that the small [exciter wire] is not loose or disconnected at the starter motor solenoide !
It could also be a bad starter relay!
try bridging the exciter terminal to the posative [big cable ] on the starter solenoide with a screwdriver or a piece of heavy guage wire to see if the starter activates!
if it works would it could be a faulty relay
Cheers Rob
The starter relay may be sticking on start. Get someone to start truck
and when problem starts hit relay lightly wih hammer. A cheap
voltmeter will tell you if relay is sticking or still energised from
ingnition switch after key release from start position.
