Recently purchased a furuno GP 1870f and c-map ,how do i load the info off the sd card to the furuno. the manual says if i initialize the card i will lose all data from the card. Please advise as i am unsure

The best price I could find in the US for the
Euope maps was about $230 -on the internet - normal retail is $299. You have to buy and use it off the SD card, so depending on how long your trip is it might be more practical renting one, unless you want to try selling the SD card after you return.

tap on the wrench, tap on map, tap on about map, there you should see the base map checked, and the Europe map unchecked, uncheck the us map and check the europe map by tapping on the check box. leave the menu.

How to load data from sd card
This depends on the chip. A chart chip will be write protected, so never save any data there. A Data chip would be supplied by you from best buy or such, and you format it on your PC then drop the data on to it, then load it to your chartplotter. I cannot locate topo maps loaded via sd card
Hello,

If you have the TOPO maps loaded to an SD card and the card is inserted all you should have to do is go to Tools > Settings > Map > Info in this menu you will find your map sets if you see TOPO make sure it is activated if not you may need to re install them to the SD.

Have you try looking in the map area to see if it is checked...


Tools... Settings ..... Map...... on bottom of screen press Map Info

Your SD card if found should have a checkmark in it. If not put one there and try it

Data cards for Fununo 1850w
Furuno just stopped producing these models about a year ago. They use a special chart card. You can still purchase the cards from Navionics or C-map if you need to. I will tell you from experience that you should get your internal battery changed out if you havent done so already to keep from losing your settings and waypoints. The dealer will have to save them for you though and put them back on. Furuno made a GP7000 to replace this one and it's uses SDcards and is nothing like the rest of Furuno's product line. The best replacement for this unit is the Garmin GPSMAP 700 series. You can use your old furuno transducer if you have one (with an adapter plug). This garmin unit also has a built in GPS or you can use an external one. The 700 series will be shipped in April. Check out Garmin's website or mid-shore electronics.

New Maps - Can't update unit
The new maps will be unlocked to your GPS using the code Garmin supplied you.

You will have to add these maps to a second SD card if your present card is full, or else purchase a larger card. Since all the Mapsource NT 2008 Europe maps are 1,395MB in size, you'll need to purchase at least a 2GB SD card.
