Unfortunately, even if you perform master reset on Garmin GPS unit, it does not reset Garmin Lock security feature, which password-protect most Garmin electronic devices to deter theft. If you forget the PIN or password unlock code to unlock the Garmin unit, the best solution is to bring it to Garmin to get unlocked. “Secure Location” does not unlock a locked Garmin unit either as it’s only a temporary fix as when it’s turn on outside the security location, the device is locked again."
So unfortunately, there is only one option: You have to send your nüvi into the Garmin, who can unlock it. Remember original receipt.
Call him back and get your money back. You cannot unlock these, we can't unlock it either. It must go back to Garmin with the original receipt to be unlocked. If you bought it very cheap and he didn't giveyou the PIN, it was probably stolen.

I think the true purpose of the pin is for another income stream to garmin they want $110 to unlock it. If not then why not just register a pin when you register for the warranty then just use your MY GARMIN to get it when you need it???
1. Enter the correct PIN. 2. Go to the secure location where the PIN was set and it won't ask you for a PIN. 3. Send the unit back to Garmin to be unlocked.
Sorry but there is no master reset. The PIN is written into memory that can not be erased. I have had success in unlocking Nuvi's but I will only do it for people who have a valid purchase receipt from a major retail chain and if they can provide me with their Garmin registration info so I can verify that they are the rightful owner.
There are too many of these units out there that are stolen and the culprits are looking for a way to bypass the PIN. This is why Garmin added this feature to their GPS's.
