I am not an expert in gardening. Whenever i use the string edger for the grass cutting, the string is cut short faster than the grass. I tried different angle but it didnt' work any better. Would you please instruct me the right way?
Thanks.
Vivian
First of all be carefull of what you hit with the trimmer string if you hit sidewalks and rocks or dirt it will cut it short also you might make sure the tensil strength is strong enough to withstand the abuse the trimmers being subjected to :-)

We live in a townhouse so our yard is't very large. We had actually skipped a few weeks of cutting the grass since our reel mower blades were too dull to cut the thick weeds and grass. This thing got the job done and did't break a cord. Really love Black & Decker tools. More details about the tips and tricks about the Black & Decker Click the link String is stuck on reel
the size of the string is critical in electric driven trimmers
it does have mass and the thicker string will over load the motor
stay with the recommended string size and keep to the recommended distance to the grass being cut
string line cutters work on the principle that the tip speed of the string is what does the cutting and that means that the first 1/2" of string cuts the grass
the rest back to the hub acts like a brake as it is dragged across the grass and slows the cutting speed and loads the motor
remember that the machine is designed to trim edges and not to cut down growth-- that is a job for heavier duty units
If you look closely inside the shield, at what would be the leading edge as the string approaches, you should find a little cutter that trims the line if it is too long. This can get dull. I have had to sharpen the one on my B&D with a file before.
Go to home depot. look at the floor model and the replacement spools they sell there. Reverse engineer the stringing process or but a pre-loaded spool.
Otherwise,
1. Squeeze the tabs on the side of the head of the unit to remove the spool cover.
2. remove spool.
3. place end of string in small hole in center ring of spool.
4. wide spool with string in the direction of the arrows printed on the spool. DO NOT OVERLOAD!.
5. snap string into notch on spool and cut string leaving 6" exposed.
6. thread 6" of string through hole in side of unit head, replace spool, and replace cover.
7. go cut grass.
