How do I play cds on my Philips portable stereo with the message 'door open'?

I have a pretty old but great-sounding cd player that has a cassette deck in it and a radio. It is powering up fine and the cassette and radio work. The cd part is showing me the message DOOR OPEN whether the door is open or closed. I am not able to play cds due to the fact that the machine thinks the door is always open. Any ideas, please? :-)

It could be caused by a small contact switch inside that has either broken or is stuck in the door open mode.

SOURCE: CD Player display always show "Open"

Theres a protruding plastic that pushes the close detection switch inside, the switch might have gotten dirty or reshaped, you can remedy this by adding height to the protruding plastic, or have someone disassemble the unit for you. It can easily be remedied by a technician...

SOURCE: Intermittent Power Problem when playing CDs

Hello db1964,

I have a cdf-e75 that had a similar problem, although the red power light was dim for all functions. (the radio, tape and cd)
After opening up the unit and inspecting, I found one of the pins on the printed circuit board for the power had broken away from the solder. (it is a tiny board where the AC connector is soldered to) Seems in my unit there is nothing securing the molded AC connecter to the plastic case except the the printed circuit board it is soldered to-It is a poor design; perhaps your is the same? I suspect over time pushing the AC cord into the back of the player may have broke the connection? Anyway, I soldered the connection and I have never had any additional problems as the unit has worked fine since.
Don't know if this helps, but my suggestion would be to open the unit and inspect the pin connections on the AC printed circuit board to see if any have a loose/broken connection. ( Mine was not noticible with the naked eye as I had to use a magnifying lens and a bright light. Hope this might help.

only 1 reason for that faults :

there is a flat connects the top panel which has all the controls with the other circutes in the stereo...
so you have to open it and care for the cd unit it damage easily then check the flat for loseness or cuts
it happened to me also and that works perfectly
good luck

Getting my aiwa to play cds or cassettes. Bought second hand no instructions .lights up won't play can I get instructions on how to get sound?

You don't state the model, so we are running blind here. It should be fairly obvious. For the CD press the CD button. Then press the door button and put the CD on the tray. Then press play or the door button again. If the CD player works it should play the music. Same with the cassette. Drop the cassette into the holder, push it back in place then press play.

I have a Sony CFD 5250 Radio Cassette-Corder. Can I play music from an I-Pod through it? I cannot find the manual. Can I access a manual online?

The answer is yes, but the ease of doing so will vary. If the unit has an auxiliary input all you will need is a 3.5 millimeter to stereo RCA plug adapter. If it does not have an aux in then it gets more complicated, but it can be done. Do a little digging on the internet for an old cassette adapter. These were used in years gone by to allow the playing of a portable CD player through a cassette deck. The adapter looks just like a cassette, but it has a wire coming off of it with a 3.5 millimeter plug on the end. It will allow you play the I-Pod through the cassette deck just like a portable CD player.

Fisher 143a CD Changer

HI...
You wont be able to play any new format CDs on an old Fisher or any other older make . It 's the internal decoder logic that's needed. And older players dont have it.
As far as top-loaders..Do a websearch . I dont know of any.
