The Singer 7256 Fashion Mate sewing machine has a top drop-in thread bobbin and an automatic needle threader. The digital display on the side of the machine is used to select different stitch settings on the machine. When the display reads error code E2, it means that there is a bobbing threading error, which may be caused by the thread looping or bunching under the fabric as you sew.

Push the bobbin-winding spindle of the sewing machine back to the left.
Turn the hand-wheel toward you, hold the needle thread (thread on the sewing machine needle) and tug it lightly as the needle goes down and then raises up. A small loop will raise up through the needle plate on the sewing machine. Use the tip of a pen to lift the loop up through to the back of the machine.
Check the position of the needle. It should be seated in the sewing machine with the flat side facing the back of the machine. If it is not, remove the needle and reinsert it so that it is facing the correct way.
Remove the bobbin case. Use a screwdriver to turn the screw on the side of the bobbin until the loops of thread pull taught and are removed.
Remove any loose fibers or threads that may be stuck in the tension disks.
Reset the upper tension disks. Raise the presser foot lever up. Put the tension setting of the sewing machine on setting "4." Hold onto the spool of thread in your right hand and with your left, route the thread down through the tension channel, around the bottom of the disk and up the other side. When done correctly, the thread will click into place and slip in between the tension disks.
Set the thread bobbin in the bobbin case, with the thread passing over the top of the bobbin and then down to the right. Route the thread through the notch located at the left of the bobbin case and pull it through. Move the thread over the top of the throat plate and over to the back of the machine.

Using incorrect bobbins may cause error E2 to occur. Not all plastic bobbins are the same size, so check the model number of the bobbin to ensure that you are using the correct one with your sewing machine.
Never turn the hand-wheel on the sewing machine away from you, as it will change the timing on the sewing machine.
if the pressor foot anvil doesn't move up and down /back/forth , the machine might be in "DARNING " mode this is usually a small button in the bobbin area , but some machines have them on the back of cabinet as well
The first time is a little difficult; but it get's easier every time. I found after mine blew its first fuse, it blew more and more often; then almost any time it got jammed; while sewing real heavy material; and when I tried to sew real fast. So might as well buy several fuses when you go to buy one. I had a hard time finding a fuse locally, until I just happened to call Radio Shack and they had them. There are usually 2 fuses, so check to see which one is blown and take it with you. Make sure you buy fuse that does not blow as easily -- think they called it a slow blowing fuse. Radio Shack helped me to buy the right one. I purchased a higher rating the last time and it seemed to do better -- but I could not find where this was recommended and I am no expert on fuses, so let Radio Shack advise you. Just do not buy a lower rated fuse.
Make sure you note where each screw goes back at, I didn't and had some screws left over the first time I finished. Take masking tape and write on it where the screw goes, then use that piece of tape to stick the screw to a piece of paper or aluminum foil. Trust me, it will help. Now how to to do this:
I didn't remove the top cover, I just loosened the screws enough to get the side panel off. I don't recommend taking the top off all the way, because my dimmer knob came lose when I took it all the way off. If you want to take the top off you can by removing the 2 large screws, plus the small one under the handle.
Remove the small screw on the bottom that screws into the right side. Remove the right cover, where the power plug is.
Lay the machine on its back and remove the screws on the bottom. Make sure when you take these screws out you do not move the embroidery arm; or you will have to adjust the feed dogs before it fits back together.
CAREFULLY move the bottom cover out of the way.
Inside the body of the machine you will see a black box held in place by three screws. Remove the screws and, as you slowly pull the box out. One of the wires on mine was not removable. One wire was real short and it was tricky to make sure I had it plugged back in when I put it back together. MAKE NOTE OF WHICH WIRES PLUG IN WHERE.
On the other side of the box, remove the two screws that hold the cover on.Inside, remove the two screws that hold the board. Be careful not to touch anything on the board
Looking into the machine from the right side (where the plug is) you will see two fuses. One will be blown. I used some real long needle nose pliers to take them out. Use the tweezers to replace with the new fuse and reassemble. Make sure it touches the metal on both sides or it will not work.
When refitting the base unit, make sure the feed dogs are in the right position -- this is what I was referring to when I said embroidery arm.
I didn't replace all my screws in the bottom until I made sure it worked. If it doesn't check the short wire where you took the box out; and check to make sure the fuses are in the slot correctly (these are some errors I made the first time.)
**ALSO DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN YOUR SCREWS. I did and mine got stripped out.
The local sewing shop wanted $120 to replace the fuse; which is about all you can get for the sewing machine if you try to sell it. I am a retired single 62 year old lady so if I can figure it out so can you. It took me almost an hour the first time, but now I can do it in 15 minutes. I still have my machine, but purchased a newer model and only use this one for straight easy sewing.

The front panel circuit board has a microswitch which is activated mechanically when the bobbinwinder is moved to the winding position. The error is most likely with the microswitch stuck in one position. The remedy requires you to have moderate mechanical aptitude. The best thing to do would be to take it to your dealer for repair. If you want to try to do it yourself, here you go:
DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREW HOLDING THE SMALL PLASTIC BOBBINWINDER STOP NEXT TO THE BOBBINWINDER SPINDLE
Open the top lid and, with a straight slotted screwdriver, remove the two large silver screws
Close the lid and raise the handle into the carry position
Loosen, but don't remove, the small phillips screw underneath where the right side of the handle rests
Pull the top of the right side cover over slightly
Remove the small phillips screw underneath where the left side of the handle rests
With the handle up in the carry position and the lid closed, lift the entire top cover from the left side first, exposing where the handle attaches underneath
Carefully bend the lower part of the handle to the right and detach it from its mount
Remove the top cover and handle
With the top cover removed, you can see the bobbinwinder arm make contact with the microswitch
If you are extremely careful to not touch the circuit board with your bare fingers or with a metal object, you can manually press the microswitch to see if it works
The plastic microswitch "button" may have become detached
The "spring" on the end of the bobbinwinder arm may have become bent
If the stitch length bar, which is located on the right side of the
machine, is in the up position move it down to where the numbers are.
Those numbers are referring to how many stitches the machine will sew
in an inch. Therefore, if you put it on 10, your machine will sew 10
stitches per inch. It being up will cause your machine to go in reverse.
Your problem is most certainly with the buttonhole switch. Firstly: Look if the buttonhole lever, left back of machine, is push up in position. The beeping sound is a warning message. Secondly Remove the light cover, left of the machine, loosen back screw and remove left hand screw completely. Check for a small black electric switch, follow the brown and green elecrtic wire, just back of the light. If you push the BH lever up and down the switch finger should also move up and down. If it stays down, the machine will not work and give a beeping sound. If the switch finger is stuck, push it up with the BH in top position. Hope this will help you
