I have a 17 inch MAG monitor that recently started blinking with horizontal lines that change color each time it blinks and it makes a really high pitch sound. I have to restart the CPU and 5 to 6 times for it to go back to normal. Any guesses?

My emachine also has an annoying horizontal flicker.

  • Anonymous Nov 20, 2012

I have noticed that my emachine has wide horizontal bars that scroll up when I connect a VGA cable to my Samsung TV. Other computers connected to the same TV don't do this, so I assume it is some kind of interference inside the computer with the signal as it comes out of the onboard Intel graphics chip. My next step will be to try putting a video card in the pcie slot.

If you have another computer handy....hook the monitor up to it to see if the problem remains, if it does not you might want to focus on the video card.

Dell Inspiron 2350 All-in-One Desktop PC Fault Flickering Touch Screen

It could be 1 of 2 things, either your monitor is going out on you, or your graphics adapter is going bad. Depending on how long ago you purchased it, and from whom, I would contact Dell service to find out if they can return it, or give you any suggestion.

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

My moniter screen go's dark with a bright horizontal white line in center ..it flickers

the driver board is bad in the monitor. Has it been in a place that is super hot like in a car? If the verticle driver chip disconnects from the matrix driver array, it will all squish into a single line in the middle of the screen like you are describing.. might try opening and blowing where the driver board connects to the LCD matrix (bunch of connectors on a plastic flat cable/bus connecting to the end of the LCD panel.. heating them could allow them to reconnect.. Its worth a try, right? It has worked for me about 60% time.
