Question about Daewoo FR640K

Daewoo fr490 f3 error

The manual says "defrost problem".the refrigerator room is too warm and the freezer room its ok (i think).Also sometimes when i open the freezer door there is some water running from the door

    also there is no water coming out from the back and it makes a stange noise like air flows from the outcoming water tube

It is a defrost problem. It can be anything from a timer to heating element to the evaporator fan. This is probably something outside your skill set.

Fridge is warm freezer is cold
Hello Abo Karin,

You are likely experiencing a DEFROST failure
(most commonly a defrost PCB failure)...
part number 67006740 item 5 on your exploded
case view (top center as viewed from the front).

There are typically only three (3) elements to a DEFROST
power control circuit:
- Defrost Printed Circuit Board ( PCB as noted above)

- Heater element to WARM the EVAPORATOR

- DEFROST thermostat... inhibit excess heat
(closed circuit at freezing - Opens at room temperature)

Check your defrost pan...
there should be water there DAILY...

IF not: you are assured that your DEFROST fails.

Per your DESCRIPTION...
You need to look for a SUDDEN REASON (huge air leak)
why FROST would form so quickly...
USUALLY a big pizza box... BUT ANYTHING blocking a
TIGHT DOOR SEAL will cause massive frosting.

It is taking moisture from the WARM ROOM AIR and blocking your evaporator...

a PROPERLY functioning defrost circuit would remove that frost
at least DAILY... and the EVAPORATOR fan would properly chill the refrigerated side blowing cold air from the FREEZER.

Yes ... all INTERIOR panels must be in place for the refrigerator to function properly.

Manually Put into defrost
This Tip is for Most Frigidaire Refrigerators, Side by Side Models.

If you want to Manually Place the Refrigerator into a Defrost Cycle, open the Fridge Door and Press the Door Switch Five Times within Five Seconds.

Now you can Verify that the Defrost System is Operational, after you have made a Repair to the Defrost System. For the Heater to come on the Freezer must be at 0 Degrees or so. If freezer is at Room Temp the Bi-Metal will be "open" and no current will go through the defrost Heater.

Freezer working but refridgerator at room temp. Door seal hot.
either the evaporator coil is iced up which means the defrost heater is bad,the defrost control is bad or the damper vent door which throttles cold air in isn't opening fully from the freezer to refrige,the evaporator fan isn't running or if electronically operated the main board behind the unit can be bad on these as this board controls all electrical issues

OK I need to ask you a few questions about your refrigerator. You mentioned that both sections are warm does this mean not cooling at all as if warm like room temperatures or do you mean not cooling enough to make ice or keep food at safe temperatures like 38 degrees f.? please answer theses questions because this will tell me a lot. If you look into the rear of freezer do you see snow or frost building on the rear wall of freezer? If yes then unplug and begin manually defrosting and placing frozen goods into a standby refrigerator. We will need to decide if there is a defrost problem, compressor start problem or a motherboard problem. Could you do that and answer these questions ASAP so we can get you going or decide what direction you will need to take. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Fridge works freezer isnt getting cold enough to freeze
check to see if you have frost on the back panel of the freezer if so then defrost the unit and if your able to find the failure of the defrst heater or defrst thermostat,or the defrost thmer more than likely its the mother board since its a general electric frig but if you manually defrost until a repair tect can come then it will run normal until it frost up again but before you call the tech out make sure you have the frost on the back panel otherwise he'll make several trip trying to solve the problem with the frig unless its the defrst heater

Freezer is cold but fridge is warm
check door seals for freezer and fridge. If ok, check frost level in the freezer. Ice present on the back of the freezer panel (evap cover) remove evap cover and check for defrost problem by ohming out heater and defrost thermostat. If both check ok, then test the defrost timer. If this unit new and covered under wty, call a&e factory svc at 1-800-905-9505 for a free repair. consult your owners manual for wty details.

Refrigerator to warm freezer OK
first check the fan...make sure it is running.

next defrost the freezer unplug and open the doors untill all the frost is gone about 24hrs at room temp..

plug it back in and see it it will work better ..if it does you have a defrost problem... let me know

The defroster is not working. Ice build up prevents cold air from the freezer chest from blowing into the lower part.

The way the defroster works is this: There is a defrost timer, probably found under the refrigerator at the front, that turns on the defroster three times per day or so. That turns on a heater nested among the freezer coils. It keeps heating until the defrost thermostat gets warm; then it quits defrosting.

I think your defrost timer doesn't turn. You can turn it with a screw driver till you hear a click. Now your ice compartment should be defrosting. With ice buildup it may need lots and lots of defrosting. You might not get cooling back into the lower part for awhile, till the ice buildup melts.

By the preceding, you should know if the defrost timer needs replacing.

If you should need to manually defrost the freezer coils, they are, I think, under the floor of the freezer. To defrost them, I'm told, a hair drier works better than boiling water. The defrost thermostat is in there too, a one inch unit with two wires. It should have no continuity warm, closed circuit frozen. If it has open circuit frozen, that would be your problem.
