I recently bought an Epson S20 printer. I have tried compatible and genuine Epson cartridges, neither are recognised, printer will not print. Help plaese
It should be returned to the seller for exchange under warranty.
I presume you have removed the tags on the cartridge and ensured they have chips on the cartridge case? If all that has been done then i would be making a warranty claim

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges?Brother Genuine Cartirdges???? ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Epson Cartridges. !!!!!!!! That sounds like your problem. In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges.I also Purchased a Brother. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges.Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc. These printers have a CHIPthat will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.
So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS.Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine....... I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale.My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate.Don’t waste too much ink in cleaning it. Its Costly.
This is the only advice I can give you.If you find this helpful, pls rate me.
Remove the problematic cartridges then put back on, sometimes they tend to get loose, if problem persists, try cleaning the terminal contacts by rubbing a pencil eraser against it, gently.
This is a common problem and is caused by faulty or missing chips onthe compatible cartridges. You will need to get them replaced otherwise the printer will not operate. Contact the vendor where you bought them from and ask for repalcements or a refund.
This is usually a sign of the print head being done. Printer heads are usually more than the price of a new printer. Too bad about the inks though. Most places wil take them back even if they are opened. Solution is to buy a new printer. I have had much better luck with my Canon.
Cheers

Try reinstalling cartridges make sure you remove the yellow strip.Ok turn your printer off and back on while installing cartridges ,if this dosen't work disconnect printer cable then turn printer on then off reconnect cable turn on again also disconnect power to printer then reconnect if all fails call Epson and your warranty may cover this
All printers are being manufactured using chip recognition software. They make lots of money selling you ink. Here's the solution: Get a CISS for your printer. It will save you TONS of MONEY, never change a cartridge again and it will pay for itself in a month. http://www.inkproducts.com/ink-store/
My Epson R285 will not recognise compatible cartridges, mainly the black.I ran out of black ink and installed a compatible cartridge but it did not recognise it.To get the printer running I had to buy a genuine one which worked.I then ran out of all the other colours soon after and installed compatible ones which were accepted.I have now ran out of the black again but the printer will not accept the compatible cartridge. How can I solve this problem as the printer has accepted black compatibles before. Thanks Padgy
Try putting genuine ink it. If it still refuses to recognise the carts then it need to go back to Epson for a warranty repair. As an Epson eng 90% of the time, rubbish compatible cartridges are the source of such issues. They can even make the printer stop recognising genuine carts.
Do not mention to Epson that you used compatibles or they may refuse the warranty repair.
