Question about Kenmore Drop-In Bobbin 16231 Mechanical Sewing Machine

Open Question

Which Janome serger feet are compatible with my Sears Kenmore serger?

I would like to know which Janome serger feet will fit my Sears Kenmore Serger Model 385.16677. Sears no longer carries this serger which was made by Janome, and feet are hard to find at Sears.

SOURCE: serger

As long as this is a sewing machine and not a serger, I don't know about them. I only tinker on my own. Remove the bottom. There is a rod running along the length of the machine. it needs to be turned 180 degrees. You may need to retime the machine.

SOURCE: I have a Kenmore serger I had to re thread it now

check out the bobbin under and see if it has all that it need..and if the thread is in the right place on it ..Also check the needle to be in range ..and not shorter..(from the adjusting screw...sometimes if it is not tided well and you use some thick material ...it can move inside and being shorter it will not get to loop with the under thread ..
If you have the instructions just check it again to see how you thread it ..cause you might missed something ...

SOURCE: Need a Kenmore Serger manual

The manual can be bought from here if it is one of the model numbers listed: http://sewusa.com/Sewing_Machine_Manuals/kenmore_Sewing_Machines.htm for $6.25 or here http://www.ucanprint.com/ for $10.

Kenmore has a searchable database of manuals here http://www.kenmore.com/shc/s/nb_10154_12604_NB_CCownersmanuals?adCell=WF&i_cntr=1298919841504 but they might also charge and you need to know your model number.

I can't find it for free, but you might try contacting Kenmore customer service at 1-888-Kenmore or through their online form at http://www.kenmore.com/shc/s/nb_10154_12604_NB_CCemailus?adCell=W5.

Or if you have a specific problem, we can answer that without the manual.

I have an opportunity to buy a Janome 8002D serger. I don't know how old it is? What is it worth? Serial No.: 020050716 Lillian

Hello, Lillian -

I checked the instruction manual available for the Janome 8002D serger through the Janome website:
https://www.janome.com/siteassets/support/manuals/sergers/inst-book-8002deng.pdf
and did not find a date of printing on the manual (which would give an idea for the year/s the model was manufactured.)

I also found the following information on one of the Janome web pages:
(Quote)
For consumers looking to date an antique New Home sewing machine that was made in Orange, MA or Rockford IL, please click here. We are sorry, but no other New Home or Janome sewing machines can be dated.
The only information we can provide is a date of manufacture if you have the following information:
  • model number or style number
  • serial number
  • place of manufacture.

It looks like Janome still sells the model 8002D serger:
https://www.janome.com/en/machines/sergers/8002d/

As for the value of the machine you are considering purchasing, you can get an idea of the price/s sellers are asking by looking at online sales of that model sewing machine. Here are some links:

Best wishes.

Is Janome L-344 sewing machine compatible with Side Cutter/Serger Attachment?

this is a low shank 5mm front load machine so yes there is a side cutter available. This will not replace having a serger by any stretch of the imagination

Juno (Janome) Serger thread not interlocking?

if the serger is new I suggest taking it back and tell them what the serger is doing.
there could be a mechanical problem with the serger or it could be out of time.

I am looking for a manual for my janome 9102D serger. It did not come with one.

I could not find a manual to download, but at the Janome site you may find another serger similar to yours and download (free).

Look thought the retired models as well.

When you find one, click on specifications and a PDF download icon will come up on the screen.

If that is not satisfactory, contact Janome's customer service at the same site.
