This machine does not support USB boot function. Meaning, you wont be able to do so in this specific machine.

SOURCE: Missing Drives for Dell Optiplex GX260 PC Desktop Problem

if you don't have the cd with the drivers and utilities, then you can download the drivers online with another computer. (you will need a thumb drive or cd to save it on) you will also need to make sure you know what brand of ethernet card your computer came with. once you get that ethernet card working, you can get online and download the remaining drivers, possibly through windows update. be sure to select custom update, not express, so it will search for the hardware drivers for you.

maybe try taking out the cmos battery located in your case, looks like a small watch battery, that will clear bios settings and start from scratch, if there is no battery then there is a jumper sequence to do this

If i download a pc operating system to a usb, do i have to put it in a folder with a specific name so that if i where to install it the pc should recognize it?

If I were you I would just use this http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/

It creates a bootable disk drive usb and has many many supported distros from Linux to windows 8. If your using it to boot windows 10 just use the windows 8 option as it worked for me.

Can I install windows on my dell optiplex gx110 using flash drive(USB)?

I would say yes, as long as you can get it boot from the USB. Check BIOS. Are installing you Win 95, 98, or XP? I ask because the manual has reference to Y2K.

You just want to keep it as a Linux box. Have Fun!

Windows xp boot disk

Note: The Microsoft Windows XP CD is a bootable CD and in many cases you should not need a bootable floppy diskette. Booting from the Windows XP CD will allow you to not only install/re-install Windows XP but will also allow you to troubleshoot it.

Create MS-DOS bootable diskette

When formatting a floppy diskette, users have the option of creating a MS-DOS startup disk, follow the below steps to do this.

1. Place diskette in the computer.

2. Open My Computer, right-click the A: drive and click Format.

3. In the Format window, check Create an MS-DOS startup disk.

4. Click Start

Create Windows XP Setup diskettes

Microsoft is beginning to phase out bootable floppy diskettes in favor of bootable CD discs and has not included a method of easily creating a bootable floppy diskette in Windows XP or from the CD. However, Microsoft has downloads available for users who still need to create bootable diskettes to install (not upgrade) Windows XP. These downloads can be found through KB310994.

hope this helps

How can i reformat my asus eee pc1000h if it doesnt have a cd drive?

You can reformat your Asus eePC 100h notebook using an Ubuntu Live USB.Here is how to make one: 1. Download an Ubuntu ISO Disk image from www.ubuntu.com or a debian ISO image file from www.debian.com. 2. You can also use an existing Live CD to create an ISO Disk image with if you have a working PC around. Many free tools exist for creating disk images.I suggest Ashampoo Burning studio or CDBurnerXP.Search for them on google. 3.Get your hands on a working PC that has Windows XP/Vista/7 installed on it. 4. Download the UnetBootIn utility from http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/unetbootin-windows-latest.exe. 5.The procedure for creating the Disk Image is as follows: (a)Requirements: 1 GB or larger USB drive, formatted as FAT32(most USB drives come formatted as FAT32 by default, but if you need to format it, on Windows, go to My Computer->right click your USB drive->format.
On Windows XP, you must be logged on as an administrator; on Windows Vista and above, you will be prompted for permissions via UAC.
On Windows, the UnetBootIN software looks like this:
brainiarc7.png
Follow the guided prompts on the software to make your Live USB drive, and be careful to select the corrrect linux distribution on the window.
When done, safely remove the flashdrive from the PC and plug it in your Asus eeePC 100h notebook.
Boot up your notebook and press the F2 Key as the system starts up and select the USB flash drive as the first boot device(You can also do the same from the BIOS setup).
When you boot up with the Ubuntu Live USB, select "Try Ubuntu without installing" option to run the Live OS on RAM.
When the system boots up completely, go to System>Administration>Gparted and the Gparted Disk utilitty will run.
From the Gparted menu, select the appropriate partition you want to format or modify.
You can read more on Gparted here.
When you are done partitioning and formating your HDD as you desire, you can also install Windows XP/Vista/7 from a FlashDrive by following the instructions below:

1.Get your hands on a working PC with Windows XP/Vista/7 installed.
2.Download the WinToFlash utility from http://wintoflash.com/download/en/
3.Install the application on the PC.
4.Once you are done, insert a Windows XP CD in the PC's optical disk drive and follow the installation instructions from WinToFlash.
By default, the installation path for Windows XP files on the drive is DRIVE LETTER:/Windows/system32.
See the screenshot below for more details:

brainiarc7_0.png

You can use the created bootable USB to install Windows XP on your notebook.
For more on WinToFlash, see this link:http://komku.blogspot.com/2009/09/wintoflash-guide-install-windows-xp.html

Have a great time ahead.
