I have a Whirlpool Care II dryer. It works fine but never shuts off. The timer can be set to any setting but doesn't move when the dryer is on. It will run all night.
If it is an electro-mechanical timer, then only solution is to replace same.
If it is electronically controlled, then problem is probably due to faulty board, again, it means a replacement being fitted.
Please rate my solution.
Thanks.

Sounds like the knob is not on correctly, or is not the correct knob, or the plate with the numbers on it has moved. When it turns off naturally, does that line up with 'off'?
there is a cycling thermostat in line with the high limit thermostat and timer circuit,on timed dry its disabled and the timer will run no matter what,on any sensor dry setting it uses the heat of the element to heat this cycling thermostat to move the timer as the clothes get drier as the heating element heats the timer doesn't move, when the heater cycles off from the high limit thermostat then timer moves again, you need to find out if its a bad heating element, thermal fuse or possibly even a circuit breaker in the homes electrical panel tripped out on one of the 2 phases that gives you the 240 volts required to operate the dryer element, the breaker may not show its tripped,so shut it off and back on and try this first

II Dryers are fitted with a mechanical timer that sends an impulse to
the control circuit board to stop running once the set amount of drying
time has elapsed. This is because, should an electronic timer fail, this
would necessitate the replacement of the entire circuit board. Confirm
that the mechanical timer is indeed broken by opening the dryer's door.
If the dryer stops, the circuit board is working fine and is not the
problem. Simply slide off the protective faceplate of the dryer, unscrew
the control board beneath, and flip it over. Connected to the back of
the timer's knob should be a small round device with two wires running
to the circuit board within the body of the dryer. Unscrew this device
from the back of the knob and disconnect the wires. A replacement timer
costs a few dollars and should screw into place without trouble.
Reconnect the wires and put the dryer back together. It should work fine
now.

If you email or callus with your model number, we'll be sure to get the right parts out to you rigth away so you can get this repaired. We look forward to hearing back from you soon. Hope this answers your question.
going through to the next wash not na normal function, perhaps the machine is advancing to an extra rinse cycle?? this EXTRA RINSE will start after the normal wash is complete, i would check your dial settings perhaps some one has mistaknely switched extra rinse "ON". if htis os not tyhe case the n i would jave to blame a faulty timer mechanism and you would need to replace the timer
I would suspect the timer is on it's way out the door. Do you have any areas the timer has dead spots? Check the exhaust for any plugging also.Is this only on a first time start up or is it after this dryer has been running? If after running it could be a high temp sensor, that by the time you are playing around with it, the temp has changed.
Hi thanks for the question. the problem could be the thermal fuse located at the back . remove back panel. on the air duct . a small piece of plastic with 2 blue wires to it . replace the thermal fuse thanks .the appliance doc
ckd for wire from thermostat on rear of blower or high limit might be easier to look at wiring diagram wire is usually orange they have been known to come off voltage is feed to timer motor during auto setting from a thermostat
