Turn on the unit, play CD or Tuner and it shuts itself down leaving the word "protect" on the screen. In the manual, pg 3 number 14, it says the unit has an attachment plug having overload protection, and to "See Instruction Manual for replacement or resetting of protective device". I've read the manual thoroughly and cannot find out how to specifically reset the overload device. I've cleared the unit like on pg 30, which is supposed to reset the unit but that doesn't work either. I went online to see if there was an updated manual but it's the same.

Email answer I got from Sharp:

I do apologize for the problems you are having with your audio unit. The protect mode
indicator will appear when the unit detects abnormal resistance in your speaker setup. I
recommend removing any additional speaker wire that may be added to the unit to extend the
factory speaker lengths. Also, make sure you have all the factory speakers attached, and all
non-factory speakers removed. Finally, please unplug you unit from he wall for 1 hour after
checking all of the above suggestions to completely reset your unit.
If you are still having issues after doing all of the steps mentioned above, the unit may need
to be evaluated by a Sharp Authorized repair center.

Awts the protection mode indicate that there something wrong to your unit maybe the power amplifier has d.c output so the system detect there a d.c voltage on the output of speaker terminal so system wont turn on the unit because it as protect mode because the system detect there a short circuit,

How to remove the protect mode from sharp xl-mp60 stereo

Hi,

The unit will go into protection mode when there is a short in the speaker wires or the unit was overloaded. Verify that none of the speaker wire connections are loose at the back of the unit or at each speaker. And verify that none of the wires are making contact with each other.

If it is, then remove the speaker wires and connect them again properly. After disconnection get the speaker wires, unplug the unit for 10 to 15 minutes or more. This will make the overload protection back to normal.

Try this and let me know what happens. I hope this would solve the issue

Thanks

Sounds like something to do with a power saving feature either from HP itself or from Windows. It could also be that for some reason your computer is overheating, which it than shuts itself off to protect the processor. I would try playing with your power saving features, and cleaning out the fans.

In power supply check capacitors ,one of them is leake or dry.Best way of detecting this cap is to have freez it (coolant) to sprey on the sections in power supply and thanindividual capacitors this will definately solve your problem.
