How to replace oven temperature probe - Tappan 30IN ELEC IGNa Oven

It looks like the probe is the same as the temperature sensor.

On some models, you can recalibrate the oven control up to 35 degrees Fahrenheit higher or lower. Refer to your owner's manual for instructions on how to recalibrate the oven control.

Since you're getting an error message the following may apply:

OPEN PROBE CONNECTION
1. (F30 or F31) Check resistance at room temperature & compare to RTD Sensor resistance chart. If resistance does not match the RTD chart replace RTD Sensor Probe. Check Sensor wiring harness between EOC & Sensor Probe connector.

SHORTED PROBE CONNECTION
2. (F30 or F31) Check resistance at room temperature, if less than 500 ohms, replace RTD Sensor Probe. Check for shorted Sensor Probe harness between EOC & Probe connector. .

The "F10" error code caused by the runaway temperature.
The first thing I would check is the resistance across the oven temperature probe (aka oven temperature sensor) terminals at the EOC (electronic oven control) plug.
It suppose to be about 1100 Ohms at the room temperature.
If the resistance at the EOC plug is wrong, then measure the oven temperature probe resistance at the probe plug.
If it's wrong - replace the oven temperature probe. It's better to hardwire it, using a high temperature ceramic wire nuts.
If the readings at the EOC and at the oven temperature probe plug are different - check the wire harness between the oven temperature probe and the EOC.
If there is nothing wrong with the oven temperature probe resistance - replace the EOC.

This is a fault code for the oven temperature sensor.
The temperature probe is secured in the top of the inside back wall of the oven. Unplug the range to disconnect electrical power. Open the oven door and remove the racks. Remove the screws that secure the oven temperature sensor probe in the back wall of the oven. Carefully pull the sensor into the oven until you get to the wire harness disconnect plug. Unplug the sensor probe. Do not let the wire harness **** back through the opening in the back of the oven. Check the resistance of the probe with a volt/ohm meter. At room temperature, you should measure about 1100 ohms of resistance. If the resistance is bad, replacing the oven temperature sensor probe. The F10 indicates that the electronic oven control board senses a runaway temperature condition in the oven through the oven sensor circuit.
This can be caused by a faulty oven temperature sensor probe or a failed electronic control board.
Oven temperature is detected by the control board as it monitors the resistance through the oven temperature sensor circuit.
You could have a failed oven temperature sensor, a wiring harness failure, an open thermal switch or a failed electronic oven control board that would cause this problem.
The first component to check would normally be the oven temperature sensor probe.
If you have a volt/ohm meter, you can shut off the breaker for the range and remove the screws that mount this sensor to the back wall of the oven.
Carefully pull the wire harness into the oven cavity until you get to the wire harness disconnect plug.
You should have enough slack to pull it this far into the oven.
Disconnect the sensor but do not let the wire harness retract back through the back wall of the oven or it will be hard to reconnect.
Measure the resistance of the oven temperature sensor with your volt/ohm meter. At room temperature, the resistance should measure around 1100 ohms.
The resistance chart is shown in the image below.

If the resistance is above 2200 ohms at room temperature, then the sensor probe is causing the F10 error code and will need to be replaced.

You can order a new sensor probe from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number for the sensor is 316217002.

If the resistance is normal, then one of the other causes mentioned above is producing your F10 code.
You would need to access the electronic oven control board (Timer) in the console and check the resistance at the sensor circuit connection to the control board as the next step in troubleshooting this problem.
