Perhaps your remote is set to video recorder? Try that first, and if no response, try calling up a menu on your TV and look for the Picture Settings.
Good Luck.

Send it back ASAP and get a replacement! I'm serious. You wouldn't want to baby sit this lemon by missing work because you're waiting for a home service tech provided by the company. When the tech comes, he will not have the part required to fix the unit and you'll be waiting at least a week to get another service call. That's another day missing work. You are one lucky guy if the servicer can totally fix the unit to your satisfaction in two visits. Days missed at work could very well add up into buying a new TV. Do not take ownership of this problematic unit especially if you just bought it. Send it back!
SOURCE: Have a 42" LG LCD
Sometimes this is an indication of a bad LCD Controller Board (or TCON board). Sometimes it's even just a loose or improper connection with one of the ribbon cables leading into it. When the set heats up the connection expands and makes better contact and functions somewhat better. If you remove the rear access panel you might be able to see the Tcon board. It will probably be under its own metal shield / cover plate. It will have a bunch of wires wrapped in a steel braided shielding cable leading into one side of it through a connector. It will also have 2 or 4 thin flat ribbon cables leading out the other side of it via plastic connectors going to the actual LCD panel. You can google it to see pictures of a Tcon board, it will look similar to the one at this link: http://cgi.ebay.com/LG-6870C-0080D-LCD-DRIVER-BOARD-MDL-42LC2D-UD-APUSLL-/170504013027?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27b2d4c4e3 You can try flipping up the little plastic retainer clips that hold these flat ribbons in place and gently pulling the ribbons straight out. There will be some gold / copper contacts right on the tips of these ribbons. Sometimes they get oxidized and need to be gently cleaned with a pencil eraser to make them shiny again. Then just slide them straight back in the same connectors and flip down the little plactic retainer clip to hold them in place again. I am assuming of course that the unit is unplugged while you do all this and that the warranty has already expired. If you have any more questions or require additional assistance, please comment back on this page and I will endeavour to help you. Good luck, and if this was at all helpful, please click on the 4 Thumbs Up rating icon above. Thank you very much. Joe.

I think, you have to downgrade the firmware:
get original firmware (I dont'now where) and
use RS232 cable to PC with nullmodem cable
In case "bricked TV" I solved this way it was 32LH3000
Call LG my set, same model, came with 3 year warranty from LG
