Sounds like you have either a speaker wire exposed and/or crossed. Or speakers that are capable of too much wattage/ohms resistance for the receiver to match.

Need help with HT-z410

When your home theater's display reads PROTECTION, it means the home theater is over heating and the unit will shut down to prevent any damage. This can happen if the unit is stacked along with other electronic devices or the unit is in an enclosed area that prevents the unit from cooling properly. To decrease the chance of overheating, relocate your home theater to a more open area.

If the home theater display reads PROTECTION every time you turn it on, no matter where or how the unit is placed, it needs service. To set up service call Samsung Customer Care at 1-800-SAMSUNG (1-800-726-7864). Have your model number and serial number on hand to set up service.

When i turn on my samsung HT-Z110, the word "Protect" appears...

Protect mode will kick in whenever a fault is detected.

You get the unit not powering up, and sometimes you hear a clicking noise, that is the protection switch that keeps shutting down the unit.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Regards.

Sony ht-sl5

If your problem is "switch on then after 10secounds shuts down and protect appears on the display .and cannot do anything with it but turn it off"

Then the unit is on protect mode, that is a special diagnostic mode that starts when the unit detects an internal fault.

To start unplug the unit from power for ten minutes, and see if this reset the protect mode, I guess you have done this already.

The first thing to do is to start the unit with nothing connected, if the unit does not go to protection, then the problem was one of the cables or a connected device.

If that does not fix it , there is a master reset , by pluggin the unit into main while at the same time you hold the power button.

If still no luck then the unit is defective and must be taken apart and tested with a multimeter.

You start checking for burnt areas on circuits, cold solder joints and leaking capacitors at sight, then there is need to grab the multimeter and do the real testing job.
When you find the problem you do the soldering.

Naturally this requires a certain experience in fixing electronics, to complete the job usually a precision soldering is needed.

Email answer I got from Sharp:

I do apologize for the problems you are having with your audio unit. The protect mode
indicator will appear when the unit detects abnormal resistance in your speaker setup. I
recommend removing any additional speaker wire that may be added to the unit to extend the
factory speaker lengths. Also, make sure you have all the factory speakers attached, and all
non-factory speakers removed. Finally, please unplug you unit from he wall for 1 hour after
checking all of the above suggestions to completely reset your unit.
If you are still having issues after doing all of the steps mentioned above, the unit may need
to be evaluated by a Sharp Authorized repair center.
