Either the disc is already finalized or there isn't enough space on the disc for finalization. Check if you have Auto-finalize enabled. Press Setup and go to the line "General Settings" with the up/down arrows. Press Enter. Then select Recording and Enter. Go to the Auto Finalize line and press Enter. Check both Disc Full and End of Timer Rec and see if these are set to On or Off. This option is explained on page 27 of the manual (page 29 of the PDF available from Funai Service http://www.funaiservice.com/manuals/SYLVANIA/ZC320SL8/ZC320SL8.PDF ). Remember that the finalization takes 20-50 MB on the disc.
I recently got my MC6 and have not had this problem. We are using Sony R+ DVD's. After recording it asks if you want to finalize it- select yes. It goes through its gyrations and then ejects. What kind of DVD's are you using?
depends what type of disc-rw's won't highlight sometimes because they don't always need to be finalized to play-insert the disc if r in another brand and see if you can finalize-go to bb or circuit and ask them if you can stick it in display and see if it comes up-if never proably was done already-also try different dvd players
THis solution follows on from ThaMP3Doctor's one which i rated 'helpful', as although it doesnt solve the problem it gave me the clue which helped me to solve the problem i posted above - so im kind of answering my own question here!
The reason THaMp3Doctor's solution was only rated helpful is becasue as far as i can find, you cant finalize the disk in your PC, you have to do it in the camcorder.
so here goes: Following ThaMp3Doctor's comment that if the disc is full it doesnt finalize i checked to see how full my disc was - it only had 25 secs of record time left. so i deleted a scene i knew i wasnt going to use and tried to finalize again = it worked! :-)
Please give this a try and rate my solution as would like to know if others have success with it. good luck!
I don't know if this will help, but according to the operator's manual I have, on page 64, the only place it mentions "Full" or "Quick" Preparation, is when using a DVD-RW disc. Apparently, with this type of disc, you must use the Full or Quick preparation INSTEAD of Finalizing after you're thru recording onto the disc. With the DVD-R and DVD+R, all you can do is "Finalize"; With the DVD+RW, if I'm reading this correctly, NIETHER Finalization OR Preparation is required. But with the DVD-RW, apparently ALL you can do is a "FULL" or "QUICK Preparation. If you're only getting "Erase or "Finalize" WITH the DVD-RW, then it appears there may be a problem with the machine. Or, if you're attempting the "FULL or QUICK" Preparation with any disc OTHER than the DVD-RW, all you should get is "erase" or Finalize", since the QUICK or FULL Preparation is not done with discs other than DVD-RWs.
Hope this helps. I'm certainly not an expert on these things....I'm a "Vinyl" type guy. Roy Davis
