Stick the belt pulley in the holes closest to the motor. if you have a belt pulley like this. get the belt and hold it together so you have a loop at the end and run under the pulley so the pulley lifts up and put the belt on the motor shaft. the belt always goes under the pulley so you are lifting upwards

Good Morning: I have an older Kenmore Dryer with the serial # of : 77982600 and the belt broke. I can get the new belt but am wondering how it goes on. Do I have to remove the felt belt on the backside?...

dont mess with the felt on the drum... pop the top of the dryer. 2 clips hold it down.. use a screw driver to pop it. then take out screws on the front and bottom to remove the front part of dryer with the door . now put the belt around the drum put front on. then comes the fun part feeding the belt through pully tensioner good luck remove back to get to belt pully /tensioner

Changing dryer belt on kirkland/whirlpool dryer took apart dryer but dont see where belt suppose to mount.

Hello. The belt goes around the tub and the tension pulley. In fact, it is always a good idea to replace both the belt and the idler/tension pulley at the same time. J.

If you want a schematic go to searsdirect.com and enter your model number. J.

How do i get to the back side of the dryer drum

Don't know why you'd want to, but here goes. Take screws out of the lint filter opening on top. Pull top forward slightly to release catches on the front clips and pop top up. 2 screws holding front panel on, one on each side 5/16" I believe. Unplug door switch. Lift front panel off clips at bottom. Go under the drum and pull belt tensioner back to release belt. It should fall over with no tension on it. Use belt to pick up drum and lift out. Then you can see the back of the drum. Again, don't know why you want to, but there you go! LOL

Need to replace drum belt

Most dryers have a tensioner pulley that the belt needs to go around to keep it tight. The belt goes around the motor pulley and the drum, but it goes around the tensioner pulley in a way that would keep it tight (you also need to release the tension on the tensioner to get the belt around it) If there's not a tensioner pulley there has to be some other means of putting tension on that belt, look around the the other pulleys that the belt goes around.

Need a btlt route so i can put the new drum back in my ge profile

route the belt around the drum, pull the spring loaded idler pulley to the postion that requires you to hold it there..
put the belt : 1 through the motor pulley and around the idler pulley, or 2. around the idler pulley which ever works to keep the tensioner tight. (Idler pulley, tensioner same thing its the pulley not on the motor.
Once you put the belt on the durm, pull the idler pull so there is tension on it it should be clear how it goes.

Kenmore dryer

It is very much easier to replace the belt from the front, than the back, the cabinet disassembles from the front, and the mechanism remians attached to the rear plate and cabinet floor.
  • pull lint filter out
  • remove 2 screws from under lint filter
  • with putty knife or other blunt blade, release clips at front corners of cabinet top
  • tilt up cabinet top
  • remove 1screw 1/3 way down each side of front of cabinet.
  • lift off cabinet front
  • drum, motor, tensioner, are all exposed

  • lift drum out forward
  • check rollers, drum felts, nylon glide bearings for wear
(worn bearing surfaces are the most common cause of belt breakage and you dont want to do it again next month)
  • reinstall tensioner in slots in cabinet floor, reinstall tensioner spring between tensioner and cabinet floor
(Once the cabinet is open the tensioner mounts are easily visible)
  • loop belt around drum at the wear marks of the prior belt
  • reinstall drum on unworn bearing rollers etc
  • loop belt around motor pulley
  • pull tensioner hard against spring to end of travel
  • loop belt around tensioner
  • relax tensioner
  • spin drum by hand to ensure belt isnt going to jump off
reinstall cabinet in reverse order
~15 MINUTES, but I do 3-4 per day

Replacing maytag dryer belt

looking at the back of the motor where the belt pulley is you would grasp belt coming down from the left side of drum then come across the top of belt pulley that is on motor shaft going clockwise around that pulley then continue back to your left and over the top of belt tension pulley going counterclockwise around that pulley this is when you will have to raise pulley against spring pressure to get belt on then release belt tension pulley make sure that belt is still in belt groove on the drum hope this helps ed
