The ice wheel not turning

The ice wheel "screw" doesn't turn when door switch is enabled. You can hear the door flap open, and a solenoid go off, but no ice comes out. This occurs with either "crushed" or "regular" ice settings. The ice maker is working, as there is a full bin of ice.

  • Ian McClelland Jun 21, 2009

Yes, AES and GES are the same model.

  • Ian McClelland Jun 22, 2009

Tested with ice tray out. Solenoid in back goes off, control rod yoke assembly goes up, but the motor does not turn. After several seconds of activation, the motor turned about 5 degs. What's next?

The model number you have is what model number? Do you need help to fix your model. I can get you the manual to follow with me or you can tell me the what happens inside. The door flap opens with a solenoid and that tis normal. Behind the tray and auger is a motor and solenoid that controls the movement of the auger.

The solenoid is energized only when the

selector switch is in the cube position. This

will pull back the actuated blades. To determine

the free movement of the solenoid/

yoke assembly, place the selector switch

(slide selector models) in the cube position.

On electronic models, push the cube selector

pad. Open the freezer door. While pushing

the dispenser actuator pad, push and

hold the cabinet interlock switch in the

closed position. Observe the control rod

    yoke for vertical movement.

The auger motor and the solenoid/control

rod yoke assembly are easily removed.

If you need help you can let me know....Sea Breeze

You need to pull the auger motor and check the resistance. It needs to show some resistance or it needs to be replaced.

1 Disconnect the unit from the power

    source.

    2. Remove the ice/crusher bin assembly.

    3. Remove the retainer screw at the bottom

left side of the ice/crusher bin shelf

    enclosure.

    4. Pull the shelf forward and disconnect the quick disconnect.

    5. Remove the assembly from the freezer

and place on a flat work surface.

    6. To check the auger motor, attach an

ohmmeter probe to the auger motor

terminals. The meter should show resistance.

If the meter does not show

resistance, the motor should be replaced.

    7. To replace the motor, hold the auger

motor armature and turn the yoke

clockwise, releasing yoke from the motor

    shaft. Remove the yoke and

    washer.

    8. Remove the four mounting screws that

    fasten the motor enclosure. Remove

    the motor from the enclosure.

    9. Install the replacement part in reverse

    order of removal.

    10. To check the solenoid yoke assembly,

attach an ohmmeter to the solenoid terminals.

    The meter should show resistance.

If it does not show resistance,

    replace the solenoid yoke assembly.

    11. Remove the four screws that fasten the

solenoid yoke assembly to the enclosure.

    Remove the assembly from the

    enclosure.

    12. Install the replacement part in reverse order of removal.

Let me know what you find. Sea Breeze

Walk in freezer solenoid not opening

Many Kenmore side-by-side refrigerators have an ice and water dispenser installed on the outside of the freezer door. The ice dispenser has a flap that opens to allow ice to be released, and closes after dispensing to keep the cold air inside of the freezer. The dispenser flap is opened and closed by a solenoid, that when energized pulls the plunger attached to the flap, opening the door. If the flap stops opening and closing, it is likely due to a faulty solenoid.

Ice dispensor in the door will not dispense ice

do you here anything at all happening when you hit the switch... if you not then most likely got a bad door switch or handle is broke at the area where it makes contact with the door micro switch...if you are hearing noise when activating the door switch you are good at the door... with the door opened hold down the actually freezer door switch and look in your ice maker while someone activates the ice dispenser switch. makes sure the augur motor is turning and if it is then make sure it is turning the ice bucket auger screw fairly simple process to go through... the operation is as follows the dispenser handle makes contact with a microswitch in the door and sends power to the auger motor telling it to turn.. once the auger motor starts to turn then it makes contact with the screw in the bucket and turns the screw in bucket forcing ice to front of dispenser and the dispenser has a flap that works both off of power sometimes or just by force of hand others... make sure it is opening and chute down and out door is opened. hope this helps good luck

Ice maker dispenser is not functioning (crushed or cubed), Ice maker makes ice but does not dispense, motor seems to be frozen. Kenmore Elite 106.57703701 model refrigerator

Open the door and hold the door switch down and try the ice dispenser. Do you hear any thing. You should hear the ice door open and the augur motor turning to turn the augur which pushes the ice out the door. If the augur doesn't turn Take all the ice out of the bin and try. perhaps the motor is too weak or the augur is locked up. Take the bin out and try to see if the motor will turn with no load. The motor is behind the back cover where the bin sits. See if you get power to it using a voltmeter when you try the dispenser. If you are, probably bad motor. If not ,dispenser switch or solenoid is not working.

There is a solenoid that operates the door that could have stopped working. Can you hear it?
The hinge on the door could be broken or the bracket it goes in could be broken. You'll have to look to see what's wrong.

Remove the dispenser cover by gently prying starting at the bottom going round and round a little at a time to prevent from breaking it. When it's off the screws will be exposed to access the other components.

The flexible arm is the on off switch to the timer. And the timer is in the ice maker itself. Make sure that arm is in the correct position.

The ice dispenser door stays open. Selenoid works

This is due to a rusted solenoid plunger .You will need to remove the top freezer door hinge cover ( 1 screw ) , and disconnect the plug there . This will remove power to the dispensor . Using a screwdriver , insert it just behind the dispensor board , and twist , to pry the board off . Remove the 3 plugs there , and remove the board . Remove the 4 screws on the white cover , and slide the cover out and off . In the top right , in the dispensor area , you will see the solenoid and plunger . 3 screws hold the solenoid on . Lift the flap , and the plunger will lift off . Part number for solenoid and plunger is WR62X10055 . The closing spring is probably good , and if you are pushing the flap closed , you are moving the plunger itself , instead of it gliding inside the solenoid , to the closed position .

Ice dispenser delivers only crushed ice.

Make sure the dispensor door flap is closing completely .
Remove the ice bin , close the door , set the display for cubed and press the dispensor pad . Do you hear a " clunk " sound ? If not , open the door and press on the light switch , and activate the pad again . On the back wall , next to the " forks " , is a square hole with a white plastic square . Does this plastic square raise up ? If not , remove the top freezer door hinge cover and disconnect the plug there ( this removes power to the dispensor ) , you will have to remove the 4 screws holding this panel , and determine if the solenoid is bad , wire came off , or plastic piece is broken . If the plastic piece does lift , then the problem is in the ice bin . Lift the long rod , and see if the flap moves , where the ice comes out . If not , you will have to determine why .

Ice flap door won't close - Freezer and ice maker frost up

Every time you use the ice dispensor , when the flap opens , cold air will fall inside the enclosed dispensor cover . This cold air , mixed with the warm outside air , produces moisture inside the cover . After so long , this moisture starts turning to rust , causing the solenoid and plunger to rust . G E has no "fix" for this problem yet . My suggestion , would be to drill holes in the bottom of the dispensor enclosure (white plastic enclosure , held on by 4 screws ) at certain points , so that the cold air will fall thru the cover , instead of staying in the enclosure . This is something I have to try on customers refrigerators for a while , before I send this Idea to G E . To answer your question , yes , I is normal to replace every couple of years ,.....for now anyway .
