HP C6180 will NOT scan multiple pages into one file
I have a Macbook Pro, running OSX 10.4.11 (Tiger), and I have owned my HP C6180 all in one for over 2 years. A few months back my HP stopped scanning altogether (it previously scanned just fine), so I eventually uninstalled the driver and re-installed the latest version (driver 9.7.1, which installs version 7.3.14 of Scanpro). It now will scan, but it will NOT let me scan more than 1 page into any document. It always would let me scan multiple pages before I had to reinstall the driver, meaning after I scanned any page from the glass, a prompt would automatically come up saying “Scan another page into document?” with an option for Yes or No. I’ve gone into the HP Scan Pro settings and I see the checkbox option for “Prompt for additional scans from glass” and I’m absolutely sure that I have this box checked.
Yet anytime I scan in a page from the glass, there is NO option for me to scan another page into the document. The first page just automatically comes up in Preview (my version is 3.0.9) as a 1 page .pdf file. This is quite frustrating b/c I still use all the same programs as before (I used the same Preview app previously, and I could always scan the multiple pages in). I’m still using the same OS and the same computer.
Why can’t I scan in multiple pages? Why won’t ScanPro give me the prompt it used the give?
Thanks, but I already have this version of the driver.
As I investigated further I found the solution on my own. It turns out that I must first press & hold the "New scan" button on the upper left side of the screen, then make sure that "Document" is selected instead of "Pictures." Then it will prompt me to scan add'l pages. I never had to do this with the old version of HP Scan Pro.

Re: HP C6180 will NOT scan multiple pages into one file
If you want to scan multiple pages, go to HP Scan Pro, click on the SCAN menu, and then make sure that "Documents" is checked under "New Scan." This will allow you to scan multiple pages and it will scan black n white or color...whatever you place on the glass.

Click right mouse on the scanner icon and then change the file setting of your scanned file. Change it to pdf file not jpeg to scan in multiple pages. Another is by changing pdf to jpeg using the printer itself. Use the LCD screen menu to navigate.
Another way if you can install ADOBE ACROBAT READER PRO SOFTWARE, you can scan with multiple pages. Regads
Scanning a multi-page document as a .pdf file reverts the settings for rotation, selected area, etc. to default for any pages after the first page. This applies to Mac OSX 10.3, 10.4, & 10.5. A simple, but tedious work-around is to scan each page as a separate file and easily recombine them using OSX Preview. Just open the first page, view the Sidebar, and drag-drop the additional page files into the sidebar. Save and it's all one multi-page .pdf.
I have a MacBook Pro - a year and a half old - and recently upgraded to Leopard, which caused all sorts of problems with my HP 8160 photosmart (which worked pretty well before that). I downloaded the necessary drivers/softward from HP for Leopard and it worked okay - but than I also started getting the "scanner cannot be initialized" messages (doing scan all wireless). Anyway, all I did was go to applications, drag the HP softward to the trash and then went back to the HP site and downloaded the software and drivers again, and ran through the simple installation process again and now my scanner works again. Don't know why - but saw the suggestion on another site and it worked for me. Here is the link to the HP site for software/drivers - select your operating system and it will direct you to the right page.
