SOURCE: Refilled ink cartridges

The reason why the printer says supply expired because the ink cartridge has its own warranty. When the warranty of the ink cartridge has expired then you will get that message. Eventhough you refill it. You need to replace the ink cartridge itself.

SOURCE: Black Ink Cartridge

I just had this problem and seems there are two metal pieces where you place the ink. those metals have broken out of the plastic envelop and when I tried to put the ink (without looking) those metal parts broke into the cables that are in the back. Now I think my printer is broken.
Seems I tried to place the inc too hard into the printer but I really didn't press too hard. I think this is a manufacturing problem. It sucks!

SOURCE: printer will not recognize new blk ink cartridge.

1) Please do not use RE-FILLED cartridges as they will clog the heads terribly.
2) Turn off printer, Remove all cartridges, Gently move the printer head to the RIGHT with short thrusts. It is not necessary to move it completely to the right hand home position just simply away from the obvious jam.
3) With a flashlight and tweezers try to locate paper jam in the print head track. Best to also blow out paper chafe with a weak air bulb. WARNING: Do not let your male friend or relative use extremely strong air pump for tires or air blower at corner gasoline station. (Do not purchase the cheapest paper the future)
4) Unplug the printer to allow it to completely re-initialize the internal electronics..... about 10 minutes should be fine.
5) Replace all cartridges.
6) Power up printer, then re-boot your computer with the activated printer connected, then print a test page. Everything should be fine.

My printer keeps saying that the black ink is missing. Why?

Make sure your black cartridge is not very low on ink or empty. Otherwise, replace it with new genuine cartridges.
It could be a communication problem between your black cartridge and your printer. Try to re-seat the black cartridge into the printer.
It could also be a short in your black cartridge. Try to insert a different known working black cartridge. Better yet, replace it with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge.
If the problem continues, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

hi e.... two things.... first of all if that is the original black cartridge it did not come with a full amount of ink. they just give you enough to get started. secondly, if the ink cartridges are not used at least once a week they tend to get dry at the tiny port where the ink comes out and not work as they should. you can remove the cartridge and physically check it for ink left. that is a good starting point. joe

Printer prints color, but not black even with new cartridge

First thing to do is a head clean then do a test print. Do you see any of the black lines?
If not, don't do a deep clean as this uses up too much ink. Remove the ink cartridges and then remove the print head unit.
Run the print head under a hot tap for a few minutes until all the run off is clear. Take it outside if you can and shake it dry vigourously. You can use paper towel if you like but try not to wipe across the nozzles. Make sue the contacts are all dry and refit it to the printer. reinstall the ink cartridges and print a few test pages - the first couple may well be wasted but then it should start to print properly.
Is the black still missing? If it is do another head clean and another test print. Any improvement? If you start to see some black do some more head clean routines and it may well come back to normal. If on the other hand you see no trace of black at all, it could be that the print head is worn out and needs replacing.
This printer is now of an age where the print head may well be failing. Mine had to be replaced last year as one of the colours stopped printing.
The head is not exactly cheap - but it's cheaper than buying a new A3 printer.

Printing black horizontal lines below text/on top of pictures

Check the waste recepticle under where the ink cartridges rest in the home position. Over time, ink sprayed into this cup during cleaning cycles builds up to form a small mountain of congealed ink. If this gets too high, it makes contact with the printhead and drags ink across all your prints. If there is a ***** of ink present, scoop it out with a spoon or a popsicle stick.

Dont get it on you, its messy...

How to clean Lexmark Z1320 printer.

hi..

You can clean the cartridge using the following steps:

Click on "Start," go to "All Programs," and down to the Lexmark. Click on the "Solution Center." Next, click on the "Maintenance" tab. Select "Clean to fix horizontal strips." This will produce a printed page.

The colors that you should see here are black, yellow, magenta (a reddish purple) and cyan (a dark sky blue). You should notice the diagonal lines above and below the solid horizontal lines. These diagonal lines should be solid from left to right with no gaps.

If there are gaps in the lines or the print diminishes across the page, you should run the "Clean to fix horizontal strips" page a couple more times to try and clear it up. If you still have gaps at the top and bottom, you should "wick" the cartridges by following the steps given below:

1. Please open the "Solution Center" again and go to the "Maintenance" Tab.
2. Select "Install color/black cartridge" and remove the cartridge (or cartridges) from the printer.
3. Get a damp paper towel.
4. Set the ink cartridge right side up on the damp paper towel so that the ink nozzles are against the towel and hold the cartridge in this position for about 15 seconds.
5. Now wipe the print head (on the bottom where the ink comes out) across in one direction only (left to right) until it looks clean. Also, wipe the contacts inside the printer (on cartridge carrier).
6. Next dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure that the ink is flowing.
7. Snap the cartridges back into the printer.
8. On your computer, select "Old Cartridge install."
9. Repeat the "Clean to fix horizontal strips" one more time. If this fails to address the problem, the entire procedure may need repeating.

try out..

When printing on my HP officejet pro L7680 the printed sheets has lines across it and the text is missing from the lined area

The HP88 printhead can dry out and cause clogging in the black part of the K/Y (black/yellow) printhead.

This has been a major problem for a few client schools of mine and for me in my attic space where air conditioning and/or hot dry air causes clogging.

You may want to consider purchasing a new printhead and an alternative black ink supplier (non HP) that uses Dyebase ink instead of pigment as this doesn't clog in the same conditions.

However, please note that if you do this it means you may lose your warranty (certainly on the printhead) and the printout won't be as clear for text as the black ink can "bleed" slightly into other colours. It has however solve the problem of clogging in one school that went through 5 printheads in two terms/semesters until we switched.
