Rust in the ceiling, corners of microwave; also on the door

There is rust on the corners and the ceiling of the interior of the oven. I read someone recommend a microwave interior paint (part 277) which is only $8.50. Is it safe to spray paint? Wont the paint get into the food just like I am afraid the rust is being lasered down into the food I am heating?

Using paint designed for a microwave oven cavity is the only type of paint you should use. If there is rust near the corners, however, it may have become dangerous to operate due to possible microwave leakage.

Can I repaint the rust parts in the bottom of the micro wave oven and what kind of paint can be used?

Hello -

Yes the rusted areas inside a microwave oven can be repainted.

First, you will need appliance paint which is designated for microwave interior use. Check with your local hardware store or local home improvements store to find out what paints they sell which fit the criteria for "microwave cavity paint."

You can read directions for how to go about the project:
https://www.doityourself.com/stry/how-to-repaint-the-inside-of-a-microwave

Read the instructions through, completely, before starting on your project so you know what supplies you need to have available and what steps need to be followed before starting.

Best wishes.

Paint inside microwave oven bottom is peeling

The oven cavity will probably start to rust where the paint is gone. If you're up to it, sand it and paint it with a color that matches the interior color. Other then colors, there is nothing special about paint inside a microwave.

I have rust like streaks inside my Whirlpool Microwave Door Panel. It is unsigthly. How do I get rid of the rust-like streaks?

Disassembling the door is a major pain and the streaks will likely only be faded not removed completely. Best solution is replace the door. Otherwise taking it apart(and not damaging it) is your only option.

Microwave safety after repainting

Too generic...Did you use the high-temp appliance enamel recommended, or a spray...or worse?

Was the rust inside where it can contact food through the circulating air, or on the outer body?

First thought based on how I read the question: Never use that machine again...but that's based on the word "in" instead of "on my microwave".

If the rust was around the door frame, outside the seals, and you used an enamel (of course) then you may be OK...but...
Considering the fact that a cheap microwave is a drop in the bucket when compared to your family's health...Why risk it?
